My fellow lovers of The Blue Lagoon, if you’ve never quite recovered from the sight of Christopher Atkins in a loincloth — even after 30-plus years — Lifetime has a boatload of good news. On June 16, the network will premiere its original movie, Blue Lagoon: The Awakening — a modern-day take on the infamous coming-of-age-on-an-island story — and our still-handsome boy is a part of it! According to a release issued by Lifetime, Atkins will play Mr. Christiansen, a teacher who helps in the hunt for Emma and Dean. No, not Emmeline and Richard — Emma and Dean, an overachieving high-school girl and underachieving boy [...] »

If Castaway was not romantic enough for you (and, really, how could it be? Tom Hanks never really loved that volleyball) and Lifetime’s take on The Blue Lagoon is too been-there, done-that for your tastes, MGM and Temple Hill Productions just might have something to rattle your palm tree. The studio has optioned the rights to Tracey Garvis Graves’ “On the Island,” a desert island-set romance with a big twist. Instead of just tossing a pair of mismatched lovers into the sea, Garvis Graves has upped her characters’ differences by age (older woman, younger man) and also thrown in a medical complication (one of them is recovering from cancer) to make the drama even more, well, dramatic. The book centers on Anna Emerson, a thirty-one-year-old English teacher who signs up to tutor T.J. Callahan, a sixteen-year-old recovering from cancer at his family’s vacation home in the Maldives. Actress Brooke Shields was forced to use a cane at New York's Met Ball on Monday after injuring her knee.
The Blue Lagoon star hobbled around with a walking stick at the glitzy Met Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art after tearing her meniscus cartilage during a recent performance as Morticia Addams in Broadway's The Addams Family.
Shields admits she couldn't turn down her invitation to the star-studded Vogue event, telling E! News she'd do anything for fashion.
But the 46 year old ensured she was comfortable by ditching her high heels and wearing flip-flops under her gown. »

Of course, if they're shooting the film in order, their clothes may start to disappear even more.In case you forgot, here's a refresher of the 1980 flick:Denise Richards will also reportedly appear in the movie as Indiana's mom.No word yet on when it'll air. What's with the clothes? As filming continues in Puerto Rico for Lifetime's TV remake of The Blue Lagoon, it looks like producers are taking a more modest approach to costumes than Brooke Shield's no-top-no-problem take in the iconic 1980 film. This time, Australian actress Indiana Evans is making her splash in the lagoon outfitted in denim shorts and a (fittingly) blue bikini top. While Shields, then 15, wore what People at the time described as "artfully shredded dinner napkins," Evans, 21, has been photographed on-set in button-down shirts and jeans as the shipwrecked Emmaline. She's also been snapped in a white robe, suggesting »

Indiana Evans has revealed that she is scared about playing the lead role in the upcoming remake of The Blue Lagoon. The 21-year-old Australian actress, who is best known for playing Matilda Hunter in Home and Away, said that she feels a lot of "pressure" accepting a role that was made famous by Brooke Shields in the 1980s. Evans told The Sunday Telegraph: "It is so exciting and the role did such great things for Brooke Shields, but it's also nerve-racking. "When you do a remake, there's a lot of pressure because people always love the original. I watched it and Brooke is devastatingly beautiful, so that adds even more pressure. I'm a bit nervous." Evans also revealed that it is "really nice" to get a big role after months of auditions in La, saying: "I have always been ambitious about getting (more) »

I hope you're ready for Meme Classic after all the tasty new writers you had last week!

Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Magic Mike Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer play strippers in Steven Soderbergh's next, a comedy entitled Magic Mike. Back in 1983, The Blue Lagoon's Christopher Atkins played a "sexy" dancer in John G. Avildsen's drama A Night in Heaven; it flopped. Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls (1995) was such a critical and box-office disaster that it all but ruined the director's Hollywood career. (True, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man didn't help matters any.) Will Soderbergh be able to strip the curse off of movies about strippers? Well, that all depends on how the filmmaker portrays his characters and the subject of sex. A moralizing movie about strippers, one that condescends to its characters, would definitely be a bad approach. That is, unless Soderbergh wants to lure only members of the censorship board of the Motion Picture Association of America. The fact is: prudes won't bother watching something like Magic Mike, »
