Anachronisms

In the beginning of this film we see a shot of a very large hotel being demolished, presumably to make way for the construction of a new hotel and casino. The imploded hotel is the old Traymore hotel one of Atlantic City's largest and most famous pre-casino resorts. The movie portrays the hotel as being demolished in 1979-80 so that it can be replaced with a new hotel/casino, gambling just being legalized in Atlantic City in 1978. However, the Traymore was closed and demolished in 1972 six years before gambling was legalized in AC and seven to eight years before the film was made.

Character error

At one point Sally (Susan Sarandon) asks a florist to send flowers to her dead husbands family in Moose jaw, Saskatchewan. Sally mentions that it is "near Medicine Hat". Medicine Hat, Alberta is in fact nowhere near Moose Jaw, which is over 250 miles away.

Near the end of the film Grace tells Chrissie that they'd both lost their men to a shooting. But Chrissie's man was stabbed, not shot.

Continuity

Before she goes to lunch with Lou, Sally cuts her hand at the oyster bar (drawing blood). But at lunch (and afterward), Sally's hand is unbandaged and healthy. (There's even a close-up of her hands when she examines Lou's cigarette case.)

Errors in geography

The elephant-shaped building Chrissie sees in the opening sequence is Lucy the Elephant, a landmark in Margate, NJ. Margate is south of Atlantic City. The vehicle she is in is clearly traveling south, AWAY from Atlantic City.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

There is no channel 7 on TV in Philadelphia. However, channel 7 may have been used in order to distance the fictional portrayal from the actual Philadelphia stations.

Revealing mistakes

Lancaster spies on Surandon as she squeezes lemon juice on herself. He is obviously looking across a courtyard or open space between apartment buildings. However, as revealed later, the two characters live next door to each other. The only way the spying could be possible is if Surandon had a gigantic apartment that wrapped around a side of the building to have living space across from Lancaster's apartment. Interiors of her apartment did not make such a large apartment seem possible.

Spoilers

The goof item below may give away important plot points.

Revealing mistakes

The TV news story depicts an eyewitness description of the murderer showing his hair, with no hat - but Lou never took his hat off.
