Schwarzenegger Chooses Kim Ji-Woon’s Last Stand as Comeback Film

12 July 2011 5:48 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

It's been a rocky year for Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he now appears to be putting his public scandal and divorce behind him and looking forward to his next film. Earlier in the year, Arnold was set to go with Cry Macho, but now he's decided that the western Last Stand will be his comeback film. A studio exec described the film as "an old-fashioned Western specifically designed for a 63-year-old broken-down guy." Like many movies of the genre, Arnold's character will face a moral decision over whether or not to stand up for his town. Last Stand will not only be Arnold's big return to a starring role, but it also marks director Kim Ji-woon's (The Good, The Bad, The Weird, I Saw the Devil) first foray into an English-language film. It's a project that's been long in development with many different directors and stars interested to tackle the material. »

The trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger's classic version takes on that of the young pretender starring Jason Momoa

Alongside The Terminator and Handsome Stranger from Cactus Jack, Conan the Barbarian is routinely named as one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's most iconic roles.

However, a young pretender to the throne has emerged in the form of Jason Momoa, the star of this summer's Conan the Barbarian remake.

Has Momoa's film got the chops to knock Schwarzenegger off his perch, or will Arnie always be the definitive barbarian? A trailer for the new version has just been released, so there's only one thing for it – a head-to-head Conan trailer-off ...

Most Convincing Swordplay

2011: This Momoa chap is a mean piece of work. Look at him, all grimacing and bulging and twirling a broadsword around with ease. He's terrifying.

1982: Oh look, it's the guy from Kindergarten Cop. What's he doing with his neck? »
