Iron Sky Director Sticking with Nazis; Will Adapt Graphic Novel I Killed Adolf Hitler

25 May 2012 8:21 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

As I said in my review from SXSW, Timo Vuorensola's Iron Sky is a goofy delight that surprisingly manages to exceed its "Moon Nazis" premise until the flick devolves into a generic, preachy finish.  However, the film has found worldwide distribution (click here to check out a Japanese poster for the film), and Vuroensola isn't done with the Nazis yet.  According to Twitch, Vuroensola is set to adapt Jason's Eisner-Award winning graphic novel I Killed Adolf Hitler.  The film takes place in a dystopian world where assassins are in high demand to take out the annoying people of the world such as loud neighbors and dysfunctional relatives.  One killer gets the unique contract to head back to 1939 and kill Hitler, but ends up getting stuck in the past while Hitler makes his way to the present.  The premise rings a little of Time After Time, and I'm interested to »

Supernatural: My Wishlist for Sam While Dean is in Purgatory

Supernatural: My Wishlist for Sam While Dean is in Purgatory

I've just begin to explore the "Dean in Purgatory" angle in the eighth season of Supernatural (here and here), but now I want to turn my attention to the other important player in this whole wacky scenario: Sam Winchester.

Dean being down in Purgatory is clearly a bad situation for the elder Winchester, but that doesn't mean Sam doesn't have a big role to play in this potential storyline.  So here's my wishlist for what might happen with Sam while Dean is down in Purgatory fighting monsters.  Of course, I keep assuming that they will be showing Dean in Purgatory and Sam back on Earth instead of using a time jump.  It's such an interesting potential storyline I really hope it happens!

No Repeat of Season 4. Let me be clear, I thought Sam's demon blood storyline was very interesting, »

Revenge Season Finale Clips: Conrad Confronts Victoria & Ashley Stirs Up Trouble for Emily

Who's excited for the Revenge season finale tonight?  Time after time, this show has proven itself as a delicious guilty pleasure.  It's fun and dramatic and refuses to take itself seriously, but delivers an enjoyable episode each week.  The only question is how it will all end tonight.  Will Emily kill the man who killed her father?  She certainly has a serious run-in with him now that he's kidnapped Nolan (watch clips).

Will Victoria succeed in taking down Conrad?  In previous episodes, she managed to find the evidence linking him to David Clarke's framing and handed it over to the SEC.  But Conrad is not about to go down easily.  In tonight's episode, he heads to the Hamptons, determined to take back the evidence and confront his ex-wife in the process.  But what he finds are Emily's bugs in Grayson Manor. »

Cannes Review: Xavier Dolan’s ‘Laurence Anyways’ Is A Spirited But Self-Indulgent Mess

19 May 2012 7:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Whatever happened to brevity? Xavier Dolan‘s latest project – the transgender-infused romantic melodrama Laurence Anyways that was chosen as part of this year’s secondary Un Certain Regard competition in Cannes – weighs in at a comfort-busting two hours and thirty nine minutes. That, in any context, is too long. But, perhaps the plot might offer redemption, and make for an engrossing enough experience to make time less of an issue? It all appeared very promising – a decade spent in the company of Laurence (Melvil Poupaud), who makes the bold and brave decision to change his sex, and his girlfriend Frederique (Suzanne Clement) who must come to terms with exactly what that decision must mean. Over the ten years the pair refind each other as Laurence advances on his personal journey of discovery, making this sort of like When Harry Became Sally, if you’re looking for a provocative, self-indulgent pop reference. Laura Prudom: 'Supernatural' Finale Recap: Who Made It Out Alive?

18 May 2012 7:13 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 7, Episode 23 of The CW's "Supernatural," entitled "Survival of the Fittest."

Reviewing a season finale is very different from reviewing a singular episode, and "Supernatural" finales are more challenging than most. The end of a season has to tie up loose story threads from the entire season preceding it, while still leaving enough dangling to create a compelling jumping off point for next year. Thankfully, despite a few (okay, more than a few) lackluster episodes this season, I think that the season finale managed to course-correct in a way that makes me truly optimistic for Season 8. The last couple of episodes didn't build up much momentum going into the finale, in comparison with the stellar runs at the end of Seasons 1, 2, 4 and 5, but a finale still needs to stand on its own merits, and against the odds, I felt like »

Review: 'Mad Men' - 'Dark Shadows'

13 May 2012 10:45 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's "Mad Men" coming up just as soon as I have my lawyer tell your lawyer what time dinner is... "It's so easy to blame our problems on others, but really, we're in charge of ourselves." -Betty When I interviewed Matt Weiner back at press tour, he quoted Roger's line from this episode that "It's every man for himself" and called that the theme of the season. Time after time this year, we've seen characters push for what they want, other people be damned. This week's selfish actors are Betty, Don and Roger, who each try very hard »

Rashida Jones & Olivia Colman Feel The 'Cuban Fury'; Jackie Robinson Biopic '42' Adds John C. McGinley & More

7 May 2012 11:25 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

One of the biggest compliments one could give to the Apatow-era of comedy is the development of talent, often very young and unheralded, from all around the world. Take, for instance, the international ensemble for "Bridesmaids" which featured Americans (Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper), Brits (Matt Lucas, Chris O'Dowd) and Australians (Rose Byrne, Rebel Wilson) side-by-side.

It's something we're seeing reflected in casts more regularly nowadays with Rashida Jones following the trend, heading to the U.K. to star in the dance-comedy "Cuban Fury" along with acclaimed "Tyrannosaur" star Olivia Colman. The two will star opposite Nick Frost and Chris O'Dowd for the tale of a down-on-his-luck man (Frost) who reignites his long-dormant passion for salsa dancing after falling for his gorgeous American boss (Jones). Based on an idea by Frost, lensing begins in seven weeks with Big Talk Film, Studiocanal and Film4 backing what will be the directorial debut of James Griffiths ("Up All Night, »

Josh Dixon is half-African-American, half-Japanese, a Stanford graduate, adopted, and a likely Olympic gymnast. He also just came out publicly as gay in a great interview at Outsports. He says that being gay in the sport has been met with a shrug by his teammates, and we couldn't be happier to have a new out world-class athlete.

The list of records The Avengers broke this weekend is nearly endless, with $200.3 million in U.S. box office, the fastest film to reach $200 million, biggest domestic opening ever, and the highest Saturday ever. It's now pulled in $641.8 million worldwide, and has to help ease the pain of John Carter at Disney, sadly too late to save out studio head Rich Ross, who was fired last week.

In sad news, George Lindsay, most famous for playing Goober on The Andy Griffith Show, has passed away at the age of 83.

‘Glee’ Director Brad Buecker Makes Feature Debut With ‘Time After Time’

4 May 2012 11:58 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

A day after his Glee cohort Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa signed to develop a Little Shop of Horrors remake with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Deadline reports that the show’s occasional director, Brad Buecker, has been granted his own feature. And, true to his own experience behind the camera, it’ll be a musical.

Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Yorkey and titled Time After Time, it’s the John Hughes-inspired story of a modern-day girl who, through whatever means, gets stuck in the ’80s. With her then-young mother taking the best friend role, nostalgia enters by way of music, fashion, and various other cultural references that are bound to make their way in.

(This, by the way, sounds uncomfortably similar to a subplot in Joseph Kahn‘s Detention. Only ten people saw that, though, so I might be a bit out of my own element here. But, trust me: this has been done before. »

Glee's Brad Buecker To Direct 80's-Set Musical Time After Time

4 May 2012 8:26 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Fox's musical dramedy Glee has travelled back in time in the figurative sense, as the singing high school characters dabble in the works of beloved artists or musical styles of yesteryear. But from the sound of Lionsgate-Summit's project Time After Time, actual the musical genre will be merged with actual time travel, and there's a tie-in to Glee, as Brad Buecker has been tapped to direct the film. Deadline shared the news today that Buecker will direct the musical, which was written by playwright Brian Yorkey. If hearing the title Time After Time has resulted in a Cyndi Lauper song playing in your mind, you're probably on the right track, as the story follows a teenage girl who ends up stuck in the 1980's and befriending her mother. Deadline mentions that Yorkey is currently doing a rewrite, so that premise may or may not be tweaked a bit. Buecker's directing »

'Real Housewives' Caroline Talks Teresa, Dina & More Season 4 Drama

20 April 2012 11:40 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Throughout the first three seasons of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," Caroline Manzo has been the mother hen. Housewives have come and gone -- including her younger sister Dina -- but Caroline has remained the most level-headed, stern-voiced, big-hearted member of the cast. However, her image seems to have taken a hit going into Season 4 (premiering Sunday, April 22 at 10 p.m. Et on Bravo).

When viewers last saw Caroline on "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" Season 3 reunion, she was arguably the most emotional and upset we'd ever seen her ... and fellow original housewife Teresa Giudice was at the center of it all.

The cast -- which also includes Caroline's sister-in-law Jacqueline Laurita, who seemingly refused to attend the reunion, and relative newcomers Kathy Wakile, who is Teresa's cousin, and Teresa' sister-in-law Melissa Gorga -- was in the midst of filming Season 4 when the reunion taped. »

"American Idol" Loser Memorial: Jesus Take My Breath Away

20 April 2012 4:55 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

American Idol packed 14 performances into two hours last night, which is both impressive and nauseating. If we didn't have to suffer through Colton Dixon's dreadfully bland rendition of "September" or Joshua Ledet's maudlin Fantasia Barrino cover, we could've had more time to savor Jessica Sanchez's feisty "Try a Little Tenderness." Still, it was generally a palatable night of muzak that left one alarming question: Was there a logical choice for eviction? Who should go home? We discovered America's vote last night, and the result is staggering.

The bottom three: Hollie Cavanagh, Elise Testone, and Colton Dixon, who ranked last on our countdown this week and has never placed in the bottom three before. Then Seacrest sent Elise to safety, leaving Hollie and Colton. Woah. And the singin' youngster voted out in seventh place was:

New Official Dark Shadows Still Of Johnny Depp & Another Possible Early Review

10 April 2012 11:55 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Hollywood Elsewhere has just posted a review from a friend who has seen most of the film. And from what he has seen he describes the film as being a "gothic romance" that has Beetlejuice elements, but is much more like Burton's Sweeney Todd. Also, there was high praise for Michelle Pfeiffer's turn as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, calling her performance, "her strongest work in years." "Johnny Depp's Barnabas Collins has a bit of a Chauncey Gardner quality as a fish out of water, and there are even elements of H.G. Wells from Time After Time as far as a cultured character trying to fit into a drastically changed society. The anachronism-based humor does work quite well. The film is funny, but it also has full-bodied horror elements. Barnabas does kill people in this and when he engages on a full-out war against Angelique (Eva Green), the evil witch who cursed him, »

‘American Idol’ Season 11 Review: Top 8 Take on the 80s

5 April 2012 12:21 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

American Idol got off to a dry start last night and didn’t quite pick up the pace, with safe number after safe number, even with Gwen Stefani and No Doubt bassist, Tony Kanal joining Jimmy Iovine to mentor the remaining contestants for eighties week. The duets were more entertaining and engaging than the performances that actually counted for something, making voting decisions awfully difficult this week. One contestant did have her shining moment this week… and it wasn’t Jessica Sanchez. After warming up a seat in the bottom three, she definitely won’t be there this week. Aside from this killer performance, it’s anybody’s guess who will be going home this week.

The only remaining wild card in the competition, DeAndre Brackensick performed “I Like It” by Debarge and gave a good performance but by no means was it one of his best performances as host, »
