If you want to know about history of Dubrovnik during World War II this is a must see. I did research in Dubrovnik while a lived there in the period of 2000-2010 about this film. Old Dubrovnikians who remember WWII confess to me that events like those depicted in the film did happen. In film they did not depict them to the letter, of course 35 years passed from the times which were depicted in the film till the time film was made, so small discrepancies are natural. But Ustasha during WWII were strong in Dubrovnik and they did very very bestial things to the non Croats. Today there are almost no Serbs or Jews living in Dubrovnik, there was small Gypsy community living in Dubrovnik during WWII, it was totally wiped out.

One would think that Dubrovnik is a better place today, but nooooo! During the period we lived there I was almost killed by the bestial local police several times, my children were treated like lowest of the low (they were born in the USA). They were abused to the point that my ex wife had to take them back to the USA so they would not be abused any more, my elder kid Theodore started to stammer. We thought by working for an American institution (RIT Croatia) that we would be protected from those animals, but no, instead of exposing what is happening, dean of the RIT Croatia Don Hudspeth(burn in hell!), tried to cover everything up. I strongly recommend for you not to study at RIT Crotia, and I urge people this way to rise up against tyrannical personality of Don Hudspeth and stupid professors who work there.

Since Dubrovnik is so physically beautiful, I recommend to you to visit for a short period of time in summer, its geography is really rarely beautiful in the world, but in the reality Dubrovnik is a backwater and refuge for right wing extremists. Yuck!
