Since the Fright Night pirate commentary went over so well, the gang here at Icons thought we'd give you another treat- this time delving deep into the genre treasure chest with a little gem from 1979-- Night Wing! Billed at the time as "bats with wings", it actually has more in common with "nature runs amok" flicks such as Prophecy, though far more subtle. Night Wing fan Jack Morrissey recently reunited the film's stars Nick Mancuso and Stephen MacHt for an ultra rare screening at the Nuart theater in Los Angeles. We say "ultra rare" because the film has never screened anywhere since 1979! In fact, it's not even on DVD! It went over great with a packed full house. Amazing how a film seen in your youth can stay with you. Prior to the screening, Nick Mancuso recorded a pirate commentary moderated by Jeremy Smith, aka Mr. Beaks of Ain't It Cool News fame. »

Stars Nick Mancuso (“Heartbreakers”) and Stephen Macht (“The Monster Squad”) will reunite for the screening, with additional stars and filmmakers to be announced shortly. Fans can expect a brief introduction, post-show Q&A, and the rare opportunity to personally meet and have mementos signed.

The 1979 killer-bat movie Nightwing, which has never been released to DVD, is making a rare return to the big screen in Los Angeles. A 35mm print of the film will be shown at midnight on Friday, February 27 at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre (11272 Santa Monica Boulevard).
Based on Martin Cruz Smith’s best-selling novel, Nightwing stars Nick Mancuso and Stephen Macht (both of whom will attend the screening, do a Q&A and sign autographs, along with more cast and filmmakers to be announced) as a tribal deputy and chairman combatting plague-ridden vampire bats terrorizing Arizona’s Painted Desert. The cast also includes David Warner, Kathryn Harrold and Strother Martin. Tickets for the show ($10.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and children) can be purchased here. In addition, the attending actors and crew will be recording a “pirate audio commentary” for the movie, which will be available as a free download at Icons of Fright, »
