But Vikram attacks Girdhari's family and injures his wife, so that she loses her unborn child in the attack. she and Girdhari think of Natwar as their own son. But Natwar is now changed and doesn't think of honesty as the best policy.
When he grows up, Natwar (Amitabh Bachchan) creates a secret identity for himself, posing as a powerful and mysterious underworld figure named Mr. Natwarlal, & determined to slowly but surely exact vengeance on Vikram. As Natwarlal, Natwar robs the thieves of the country by knowing their dirty secrets and then distributes the robbed money into the poor as a rural Robin Hood. He tells at home that he is a successful businessman and hence has so much money.
Gridharilal does not understand his motives and develops a grudge against him. Natwar learns from Mickey, an infamous underworld figure and Vikram's former ally, who is posing as a burnt man, that Vikram is in a village called Chandanpur and wants a diamond necklace, which is in the possession of Fakirchand. Mickey wants Natwar to steal the necklace and take it to Chandanpur where he will find Vikram to complete his revenge. Unknown to Natwar, Mickey is using Natwar to penetrate Vikram'e defenses in Chandanpur as Mickey and Vikram are now rivals. Natwar steals the necklace, unknown to everyone present there and leaves for Chandanpur, after apologizing to an asleep Gridharilal about the troubles he has given to him. Meanwhile Mickey's plan is in action and he wants control over the diamond mines that Vikram operates in Chandanpur. He plans to eliminate both Natwar and Vikram, when Natwar has done his job. Mickey is pissed at Vikram for branding him with a hot iron, which is how each of his is slave is branded in the mine.
He reveals that Vikram is terrorizing the villagers using a tiger. In the guise of a tiger attack, Vikram kidnaps 1 or 2 villagers at a time and makes them slaves in his mines. Mukhiya (Kader Khan) is the elder of the village and Shanno (Rekha) his daughter. Meanwhile, Natwar arrives at Chandanpur, disguised as Avtaar Singh, a hunter whom Vikram had already killed (but this was not known to the villagers). Mukhiya and Shanno welcome Avtaar with open arms as they believe he will rescue them from the tiger. Natwar realizes that he came for a different mission but is now entangled in something else entirely. The first time the tiger attacks (Chandanpur is on a hill), Natwar accidentally knocks over empty barrels which roll down the hill and scare the tiger away. The villagers are happy and grateful.
Vikram is intrigued by this mystery man, but doesn't kill him as he doesn't want BSF or Police to descend on his operations if this man was mixed up with them. Meanwhile Shanno falls in love with Natwar. The next time tiger attacks, he goes for Shanno and Natwar plays on his life to protect Shanno and the villagers. The tiger retreats. Vikram gets word that BSF will not patrol Chandanpur area for another 4 months. So he attacks all villages to gather slaves for his mines. Natwar is alert to the danger and senses another tiger attack on Chandanpur (he put 2 and 2 together to figure out that the tiger attacks are orchestrated by Vikram). Natwar and Shanno wrestle the tiger and villagers pitch in to capture it. Vikram sends an assassin to kill Natwar, but Mukhiya sacrifices himself to save Natwar and Natwar chases and kills the assassin. Mukhiya leaves the village under Natwar's protection before dying. Vikram's men attack, but Natwar defends the village and the attackers retreat.
Natwar anticipates another attack and fortifies the village's defenses by moving rocks, supplies and the captured tiger up the hill. Vikram's men attack again, but this time the villagers are prepared and throw rocks at them from a height and force them to retreat. This time Natwar goes after the attackers and finds Vikram's mines. He leaves a message for Vikram on his tape recorder, declaring he is Girdhari's brother. To lure Vikram out, Natwar steals all the diamonds his mines had produced Vikram orders his mean to penetrate the hill and throw down the villagers food stocks. and then Vikram's army surrounds the hill. Meanwhile Girdhari arrests Mickey in the city and shoots him when he tries to escape. Mickey's last word are misinterpreted by Girdhari to think that Natwar is running an illegal diamond mine in Chandanpur. Back in Chandanpur Natwar releases the tiger who attacks Vikram's men. By the time they recover the villagers descend and take away the food back up the hill. As a last trump card, Vikram parades all captured villagers in front of the villagers on the hill. People cant resist looking at their lost loved ones and run towards them, only to be captured by Vikram's men.
Meanwhile Girdhari reaches Chandanpur and starts a search operation of the hills with BSF. They will soon find the mine and Vikram. So Vikram rigs the mine with explosives and escapes (after he has captured Girdhari and the BSF commander). The explosives are pressure sensitive. Now Girdhari realizes that Natwar was trying to help the villagers. Natwar outsmarts Vikram by walking in his footsteps (to avoid the pressure sensitive explosives) and disarming the switch. Natwar then goes after Vikram and defeats him in hand to hand combat. Vikram is killed by Natwar when he tries to attack Shanno.
