Trivia

Filming in Paris, where he had been part of the U.S. Army when they liberated the city in 1944, was a great experience for Broderick Crawford. According to co-star David Dukes, "He could still walk into restaurants where the owner would remember him and sit him down to dinner." See more »

Goofs

Around minute 51 when on the Champs-Elysees a pedestrian makes an obscene gesture to the camera. They should've noticed this and re-shot on the spot. See more »

Quotes

Daniel Michon: [chasing after Lauren outside the adult theater] I've never seen one of them before either, I wouldn't have taken you. It isn't like that. That's something else. It isn't love.

Best romantic movie ever
25 February 2002 | by (San Diego) – See all my reviews

I love this movie because it is a real love story. This is not some cheesy feel good Hollywood movie, this is a movie about love and it's transitory nature.

It's a movie about love without all the sex, corny lines and bad jokes that permeates the modern so - called romance movies.

Laurence Olivier plays a difficult role to the tilt. One of the toughest roles you can play is a character that is an actual ham. How do you portray a ham handed con artist without over-acting? Watch Olivier in this film and you will see a clinic on subtle acting.

I'm not a big fan of romantic movies. And I never cry at movies. But this one makes me cry every time I see it.
