Sex & Nudity

  • Suggested MPAA rating: G or very mild PG for brief violence and thematic material
  • Like the first part of "Henry IV," a good portion of this film is set in a tavern/brothel and some of the characters are prostitutes. No actual sex or nudity is ever seen, however, and this behavior is condemned.
  • It is very subtly implied by the dialogue that Falstaff (an immoral character) wishes to have sex with Doll Tearsheet but cannot get an erection due to his old age and obesity. This will not be noticed by children, however, and immoral behavior is always condemned in Shakespeare's writing.

Violence & Gore

  • It is implied that people are killed in a battle

Profanity

  • None whatsoever. Every line follows Shakespeare's play exactly.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A good deal of drinking and drunkenness, but this is not condoned by the film itself.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Mild violence consistent with the play throughout, but nothing graphic or overly disturbing. Suitable for family viewing.

Spoilers

Violence & Gore

  • Near the end, the English court pretends to enact a truce, but then turns back on their word and hunts down and kills the rebel army who have dispersed. Very little violence is depicted, however.
