One of the great mysteries of our time is the fate of the
three escapees who defied the odds and successfully broke out of the supposedly
‘escape proof’ Alcatraz federal prison in 1962. The famous 1979 Clint Eastwood film Escape From Alcatraz strongly implied that they were successful. However, since they
disappeared without a trace, some people believe that they most certainly must
have drowned. One person who is sure they made it is true crime reporter Don
DeNevi. His 1992 book “Riddle of the Rock” persuasively makes the case that the
Anglin brothers, at a minimum, returned to their roots in the Florida/Georgia
section of the southern United States and lived out their lives as free men.
Now, Canadian film producer and writer Graham Clegg wants to
turn this story into a feature film. Clegg, a screenwriter for Canadian televison, has

This Wednesday, October 7th at 9Pm, will mark the return of (arguably) one of the best programs on television, MythBusters, and in typical MythBuster fashion, they kick it all off with superhuman punching robots, bullets, pneumatic triggers, explosives and… socks?
In the fall premiere, Adam (Savage) and Jamie (Hyneman) take on the classic theory, “If one bullet is fired and the other is dropped simultaneously from the same height, which will hit the ground first?”
Once again, Adam and Jamie attempt to take on a myth that’s so intricate and complex that is has never been attempted before. Until now, that is. With pneumatic triggers, precise measurements and calculating time down to the milliseconds, Adam and Jamie have their hands full with this one - Especially when they have to redesign their “rig” (That’s MythBusters talk… if you don’t know, you just don’t know) in the

Director Walter Hill.
Kicking Ass with Walter Hill
by Jon Zelazny
Action flicks. Two-fisted tales. Guy movies. Whatever you want to call them, writer, producer, and director Walter Hill is one of the living masters, with a resume full of classics from The Getaway (1972), to the Alien series, and the definitive eighties action-comedy blockbuster, 48 Hrs. (1982).
2009 marks the 30th anniversary of The Warriors (1979), Hill’s surreal “street gang on the run” cult classic, and his breakout success as a director.
Jon: A couple years ago, you did an audio commentary and on-camera intro for a new DVD edition of The Warriors. It was the first time I’d ever seen you; is it my imagination, or have you kept a low profile over the years?
Walter Hill: I’d never done a commentary before on one of my films. I don’t like the idea of explaining a movie; I

Nobody wants to go to jail. But if you've got to go to jail, just hope you don't do it in the movies. Odds are if you're going to movie jail, you're going to wind up at the mercy of some jerk warden (or captain or superintendent or game show host of a dystopian future) who wants to torture you for kicks.
It happens time and again, most recently in this week's "Gamer" where poor Gerard Butler plays an inmate who finds himself as a running man in a death race against the southern-accented treachery of Michael C. Hall. In honor of "Gamer," here are 12 more corrupt and sadistic movie wardens who could scare anyone straight.
Strother Martin as The Captain
"Cool Hand Luke" (1967)
"What we've got here is... failure to communicate." It's not just the most famous line ever spoken by a movie warden; it's one of the most famous lines in movie history.

Two major loses in the film and television industry ...
Patrick McGoohan, 80, star of the 1967 The Prisoner series died Tuesday in a Los Angeles hospital following a brief illness. Best known for his role as Number Six in the iconic British series The Prisoner, McGoohan not only played the lead but developed the concept and wrote and directed several episodes. The Prisoner ran for just one season with 17 episodes and later this year AMC will remake a miniseries based on the cult classic. During his career, McGoohan won two Emmy Awards, 16 years apart, guest starring in two episodes of Columbo in 1974 and 1990. He also made several memorable appearances in movies such as the warden in the 1979 film Escape From Alcatraz, King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Braveheart and as the judge in the 1996 drama A Time to Kill. McGoohan is survived by his wife, three daughters and five grandchildren.

Patrick McGoohan – the star and co-creator of seminal Sixties TV show, The Prisoner – has died after a short illness. He was 80.Best known for his TV work, including Danger Man and two Emmy Award-winning appearances as nemeses on Columbo, McGoohan rarely dabbled in cinema, but he still managed to amass a series of notable roles, including the evil King Edward Longshanks in Braveheart, Dr. Paul Ruth in David Cronenberg’s Scanners, British spy Jones in Ice Station Zebra, and the Warden in Escape From Alcatraz. His last credited role was as the voice of Billy Bones in 2002’s Treasure Planet - and what a voice he had too, shaped by an upbringing in England and Ireland, it was rich, deep, and sonorous, with his strangely neutral accent giving many of his performances a sinister, otherworldly quality. He often played villains, but his best-known role was as the hero of The Prisoner,
