This one will drive you into a bloody rage. Right the way back to the video store....
25 January 1999 | by (London, England) – See all my reviews

Very occasionally, one can watch a movie and become fascinated with one very simple issue:- Just how the hell did it happen? What encouraged a person or persons to finance such trash, without hardly any merit in the World? Where did the finance come from anyway? Who were the makers expecting would be interested in the movie? Finally, how could any half-intelligent audience take a movie seriously that tried awfully to rip off from such classic American films as "Taxi Driver."

"BloodRage" is one such film. I was in Blockbuster Video, Liverpool, just before Christmas, and this particular movie caught my eye. It was situated in the horror section (Where else?), and the case itself was virtually blank, with hardly any attempt at pictures or photos. However, there was a pretty detailed synopsis on the back, describing how the movie was for fans of anyone who liked "Henry: Portrait of a serial killer" (I'm one of those!). There was also a special BBFC warning on the film, indicating that many audiences may find the film unsuitable because of its nature. I don't deny that this fascinated me all the more about the film; what the Devil happens in it then, I wondered? Is it really that grim? Five minutes later, I was on my way home, £2.00 down, but now the proud owner of "BloodRage" for two nights only. I watched it that same evening. I haven't had a trumpier evening since.

"BloodRage" is about a man who looks incredibly like Frank Spencer. Or, maybe you might know Spencer better as Michael Crawford. Either way, Frank Spencer was that silly man in the BBC comedy "Some mothers do have 'em." But, er, the character in this movie didn't behave at all like Frank Spencer would. In fact, he acted more like Travis Bickle from "Taxi Driver," except in a nastier, more murderous way. After killing a local prostitute, he heads off for the city, where he goes out on a prostitute rampage. Meanwhile, a cop who was friends with prostitute number one goes looking for Frank Spencer-lookalike. During the time in which it takes the cop to find the villain, a few more prostitutes have been knocked off, as have a poor little doggy, which meet his fate by being thrown through a closed window, and straight out of a rather tall building (It's worth noting that if you can cope with seeing such a terrible thing happen to an innocent little doggy, you won't be shocked too much by anything else in this film).

Meanwhile, somehow or other, the cop has single-handedly worked out just who murdered his prostitute-friend, and, this eventually leads to a bloody awfully filmed finale.

I don't want to say much else about "BloodRage" because it's rubbish. It's more mysoginistic than "I spit on your grave," and it's a very badly made, gritty looking little tale. There are no performances here worth paying any attention to, and it just seems to be torture and murder after torture and murder. There's no explanation for characters motives and their behaviour, and the scenes where the murderer narrates his story (e.g. "The headaches are going now...") are the funniest, most blatant and stupid rip off of "Taxi Driver" in the World.

Utter trash, and not even worth a look at by bad-movie fans. Just why it has the BBFC warning on it is a mystery; a Government health warning would have been much more suitable. Avoid like the plague.
