Lots of dead space in this Russ Meyer flick, technically his last theatrical film. A vague spoof of "Our Town", this one features a narrator pointing out the private lives of a small desert town, where one couple in particular is characterized by the wife's nymphomania and the husband's interest in anal sex (an interest that is apparently not shared by his wife).
In today's terms, this is like a porno movie with the hardcore sex stripped out. It's still explicit, but the scenes drag on and on with only a very loose structure, until you're ready to hit the fast forward button. It really gives you a headache after a while, especially due to the obnoxious characters and the dialog, which the actors mostly scream at one another. The worst offender is a radio hostess, who offers a series of seemingly endless religious rants while flapping her extremely large bosom around.
Anybody familiar with Russ Meyer understands that he was obsessed with heroically large-chested women, and the females in this movie are no exception. I would imagine that the entire cast of this film (the ladies, that is) were candidates for breast reduction surgery as they got older. Guys who are into big boobs will really have a great watching this, but I suspect that even they will get bored with the movie after about twenty minutes of yelling, screaming, and wacky editing.
There's some funny stuff in this movie, too, but it's a real snore overall. Hard to believe that this was scripted by Roger Ebert, who wrote the delirious "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", which Meyer filmed for 20th Century Fox. This was Meyer's last theatrical feature, and frankly I couldn't imagine being trapped in a theater with this movie.
