Duvall Ponders Marriage

28 October 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Movie legend Robert Duvall has hinted he is finally ready to marry his Argentinean girlfriend of seven years, Luciana Pedraza. The Apocalypse Now star met Luciana - who is 41 years his junior - in Buenos Aires in 1996 over their mutual love of tango dancing, and now Duvall has hinted they be about to walk down the aisle. He muses, "Why not get married. Maybe we should. I've been thinking about it. I had been to Buenos Aires many times. I love the city, and I've seen a lot of pretty women there. But she was something special. We clicked right away." Of the huge age gap between the 72-year old star and his 31-year old belle, Duvall says, "The age difference has never bothered her. We go everywhere and do everything together. It's like we've always known each other." »

Wrestling star Triple H pins first film roles

16 September 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Hoping to fill Hollywood's current action-hero void, World Wrestling Entertainment star Triple H has signed on to a pair of high-profile roles. He will topline Jornada del Muerte, a modern-day Western from Apocalypse Now scribe John Milius, and will battle Wesley Snipes in New Line Cinema's Blade: Trinity. Jornada del Muerte (Journey of Death) will be the first theatrical release from the recently formed WWE Films production banner. The project, which Milius said was written specifically for Triple H (whose real name is Michael Paul LeVesque) to star in, is described as a modern-day Western set in the Southwest that involves motorcycle gangs, drug trafficking and broken codes of honor. Jornada is being produced by WWE Films' Vince McMahon and Joel Simon along with Alfred Sapsy and Patrick Hughes. »

Dean Wanted To Quit Acting

23 June 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Revered Hollywood legend James Dean was planning to ditch his glittering acting career, when his life was cut tragically short in a 1955 car accident. The Rebel Without A Cause hero told close pal and co-star Dennis Hopper that he wanted to become a film director, as he couldn't stand being treated like a puppet. Apocalypse Now actor Hopper recalls, "Jimmy was going to try directing. It was going be a movie called The Actor, about being a movie star. Jimmy wanted to be in charge. He was going to stop acting in films and be a director, but he died before any of this could happen. We had pretty much seen the end of James Dean on the screen, even if he had lived." Hopper continues, "He couldn't stand being interrupted every five seconds by some idiot behind the camera. He was too caught up in the role to be stopped abruptly and made to start again. He was going to do just one more acting part - as Rocky Graziano in Somebody Up There Likes Me - and then stop acting. That part ultimately went to Paul Newman, after Jimmy died in the car wreck." »

Sheen's Visa Ad Pulled

17 March 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Charlie and Martin Sheen's popular Visa Card advertisement has been pulled from American TV - reportedly because of the elder actor's outspoken Anti- War stance. According to TV insiders, the Apocalypse Now star's high-profile campaigning against a US led invasion of Iraq has signaled the end of his and his son's lucrative deal with the credit card company. One says, "Visa has been getting tons of complaints based on his war stance. Visa was running the Sheen ads with the Yao Ming ads. But last week, they pulled Sheen's ad right after all the hullabaloo over his Anti- War remarks hit the press." However a spokesperson for Visa explains, "After airing for more than four months, the Visa Usa television commercial featuring Martin and Charlie Sheen concluded its run on March 11. As with many Visa commercials, this spot aired for a specific period of time, and is now being rotated out of the advertising lineup. Mr. Sheen is part of a long list of celebrities that we use or have used - from Yao Ming to Bob Dole to Kevin Bacon - to promote the Visa Check Card. While these celebrities play a role in our spots, they in no way represent the views of Visa. Likewise, Visa does not use its advertising to make political statements, and neither the spot nor the conclusion of its run should be interpreted as one." »

Sheen Faces Firing Over War Stance

5 March 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood star Martin Sheen is facing getting fired from his role as President Jed Bartlett in TV hit The West Wing - because of his outspoken views on war. The Apocalypse Now actor has been the most vocal of a growing number of celebrity names strongly opposed to conflict with Iraq. He has addressed rallies and spearheaded last week's "virtual match" in Washington DC, where legislators were bombarded with a million emails, telephone calls and faxes from protesters. But Sheen's strong political views are causing problems for West Wing bosses at NBC, who fear they face a boycott from advertisers. The actor claims NBC executives have told him his high profile could damage the show and called on him to explain his views. Meanwhile, Sheen and other stars among the anti-war lobby are also facing a public backlash because of their controversial standpoint. While the actor confesses he has received thousands of hate emails, been accused of being a traitor and accosted in the street, an internet organization has been founded to counter the anti-war movement. A message on the Citizens Against Celebrity Pundits declares itself a voice for, "American citizens who stand against wealthy Hollywood celebrities abusing their status to speak for us." It adds, "We believe that celebrities Martin Sheen, Mike Farrell, Tim Robbins, Rob Reiner, Barbra Streisand and others with them are using their celebrity to interfere with the defense of our country." »
