Classic short which surely must get some kind of re-release sometime, 17 June 2008
10/10
Author: (michael-heathcote3) from Hampshire, England

A classic British comedy short made in the days when we were still producing things like this for cinema release. I remember going to the pictures one day in the late 70s to see a film I'd been wanting to see, and this came on as the trailer. Well I can't even remember the movie that followed it now, but I can certainly remember this great little film, that's how good it was. I even recall sitting through the main movie not really concentrating on it because I was still marvelling at this superb short.

Starring the incomparable Leonard Rossiter and a couple of other well known faces of the time, this short comedy pokes brilliant fun at the daily ritual of commuting to and from work in London. It plays on the childish games some adults play in their heads to wile away the tedium of such an everyday ritual. It focuses on a few executive types, who in the competitive jostle of starting their walk from the city to the train station suddenly see their journey as a race between each other, and each become determined to win it. It was mesmerising cinema, simple yet extremely clever, gently satirical, slightly silly even, but hilarious. I have longed to see this again ever since, but they don't show many shorts as trailers any more at the cinema, do they! How about a DVD release then on a compilation of long lost classic shorts?
