Watch: Goodie Mob Honors McA At The Billboard Music Awards

21 May 2012 7:01 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Goodie Mob took the stage to perform their new song "Fight To Win" at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

Although fans were excited to see Cee-Lo Green and Goodie Mob back together, the true star of the set was Jean Sok, a one-legged dancer from Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour. Dressed as a soldier, Sok gave a truly powerful performance and left a lasting impression on viewers.

Clad in white Adidas tracksuits, the hip-hop foursome (Cee-Lo Green, Khujo, T-Mo, and Big Gipp) then surprised the audience by launching into the Beastie Boys classic, "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)," as a tribute to Adam "McA" Yauch, who lost his battle with cancer earlier this month.

In other Billboard Music Awards news, Katy Perry picked up the Spolight Award for matching Michael Jackson's record of five No. 1 singles on the Billboard charts off a single album. »

Last Dance for Donna Summer (Rip)

18 May 2012 3:17 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Goodbye to disco queen Donna Summer who died yesterday at 63 of cancer. She was one of the rare through lines in popular music of the 70s and 80s -- doesn't it seem like disco had its inordinate share of one hit wonders? But not Donna. Hit after hit and her voice defined the era: I Feel Love, Macarthur Park, Love to Love Ya Baby, No More Tears (Enough is Enough) and so on...

Donna was a "special guest star" in the movie, but promoted to top billed for the DVD release despite her small role.

Donna wrote or co-wrote some of her hits but not "Last Dance", the Oscar-winning one. Still, you can bet her indelible vocals helped win songwriter Paul Jabara that naked gold man. As you can see in the image up top Donna became the film's most important selling point retroactively on DVD but in the original poster, »

So Long Donna Summer! The Death of a Disco Diva!

17 May 2012 10:46 AM, PDT | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Disco Icon Donna Summer has died Thursday. She was 63.

According to MSNBC, Summer succumbed to her battle with breast cancer. She was recording an album at the time of her death.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 31, 1948, the singer quickly became the symbol of the Disco era and was known as the Queen of Disco in the 1970s. Her musical career was launched in Munich, Germany during stage productions of "Hair" and "Porgy & Bess." Producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte gave Summer her first hit with "Love to Love You Baby."

Summer briefly flirted with the movie industry with her roles as Nicole Sims in the 1978 flop "Thank God It's Friday" or "T.G.I.F." The film was a dud but her battle cry, "Last Dance," won an Oscar for Best Song. Prior to that, Summer received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song for "Down Deep Inside" for 1977's "The Deep. »

Reba McEntire and Tim Allen help ABC bring back 'Tgif'-like Friday night block

15 May 2012 10:52 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Oh, the good old days. Beginning in 1989, ABC called its Friday night block of family-friendly comedies "Tgif" -- a play on "Thank God it's Friday" that the network tweaked to refer to "Thank goodness it's funny!" That year, the line-up included iconic series "Full House" and "Family Matters," among others. In the 1990s, the block gained even more popularity, launching shows like "Step By Step," "Boy Meets World," and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch."

The concept was phased out in 2000, as Friday night became an increasingly dead zone for broadcast TV. Now, ABC TV president Paul Lee is looking to get eyes back on television screens at the end of the work week.

By putting Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" and the new "Malibu Country," led by fan favorite Reba McEntire, on Friday nights beginning in midseason, ABC is reviving its Friday night comedy block. Though they likely won't actually »
