Superman (1978) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.
Visit our Parents Guide Help to learn more

Sex & Nudity

When a very young Kal-El arrives on Earth, he exits his ship completely naked. We see him completely from the front.

In a balcony conversation, Superman is asked by Lois to tell her what color underwear she is wearing. Lois also asks a question that contains some innuendo, but it should go over the heads of kids.

A female accomplice of Lex Luthor wears tops that reveal a lot of cleavage.

Violence & Gore

Superman tangles with a few villains, but it is in a comic book style. A man is killed by a subway train, but no gore is shown.

Profanity

Infrequent use of damn and hell.

Brief and infrequent.

In the opening scene, three villains are sentenced to the "Phantom Zone", and the way they are transferred to this other dimension is intense.

The scene where Krypton is destroyed may scare young kids.

Lex Luthor kills a man with a subway train. We see his reactions and hear him scream as the train hits him, but no gore is shown.

A helicopter malfunctions, nearly killing its occupants in an extended sequence, but Superman flies to the rescue.

Thousands of people are put in peril by a nuclear missile that causes a massive earthquake that threatens to destroy the entire state of California, but Superman stops the disaster.

A woman is trapped inside her car during an earthquake, and she is suffocated by sand and mud.
