Reeve's Night Of Stars

19 November 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A host of Hollywood stars turned out to support Christopher Reeve's fundraising bash in New York on Tuesday. The Superman actor, who was paralyzed in a horse-riding accident in 1995, was host to 1,000 friends and donors at A Magical Evening: Discover The Magic fundraiser for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation at the exclusive Waldorf Astoria hotel. Hollywood couples Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins joined Billy Baldwin and Meryl Streep at the event, presented by Oscar winner Helen Hunt. Close pal Glenn Close told guests, "I'm here because Christopher Reeve is a beloved friend of mine, and I swore when he had his accident that I would do whatever he asked me to do to support him." The Fatal Attraction actress pressed guests to keep supporting the charity, as well as the September 11th charities. Close says, "I think we're all concerned that as horrible as the tragedy that we've all endured together is, that we don't lose track. There are incredibly important issues that we have to keep addressing and we have to keep supporting that really are a matter of life and death." Reeve's foundation has raised $3.5 million so far to try and discover a cure to paralysis. »

Reeve's World Trade Center Loss

11 October 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Superman hero Christopher Reeve has spoken out about his personal loss following the September 11th attacks on America. The actor, who was paralyzed following a horse riding accident in 1995, lost six friends when the World Trade Center collapsed. On the subject of breaking the news to his nine-year-old son Will Reeve says, "Up until September 11th, he believed the world was a secure and peaceful place, and now he is acutely aware that there is an unknown danger. I've noticed that he needs reassurance every day just about little things - what the plan is after school, who's going to pick him up, what we are doing tomorrow, is Dad going to be home." »

Reeve Laughs At Superman Role

30 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Christopher Reeve loves watching the screen test he did for Superman - because it's so funny. Reeve, 48, shot to fame at the tender age of 25 in the 1978 movie, but still can't understand how he ever landed the part. He laughs, "They had to have been out of their minds. I was 6 foot 4, but I was pretty skinny. It was a leap of faith. The makeup department came out with a fake set of upper body muscles, with biceps and everything, of foam rubber. I said, `I'm not going to do that. I promise, I'll go to the gym.'" Reeve adds, "I think the reason that I wanted to be part of it was because it was a brand new venture which now has become the benchmark of all comic book movies. "I didn't know that the movie would last, whether it would hold up as well as it does." After being paralyzed six years ago this week in a riding accident, Reeves still directs and acts in movies. »
