Storyline

Faber College has one frat house so disreputable it will take anyone. It has a second one full of white, anglo-saxon, rich young men who are so sanctimonious no one can stand them except Dean Wormer. The dean enlists the help of the second frat to get the boys of Delta House off campus. The dean's plan comes into play just before the homecoming parade to end all parades for all time. Did You Know?

Trivia

The President of the University of Oregon only allowed this movie to be filmed on that campus because he decided he did not know how to read screenplays. In 1967 he had received the screenplay for a movie but had denied it permission to film there. That movie was The Graduate (1967) and he liked that movie so much that he decided he didn't want to miss another opportunity, so he allowed Animal House (1978) to be filmed on the University of Oregon campus. But he insisted that the college's name not be listed in the film's credits. See more »

Goofs

In the homecoming parade there is a float showing President Kennedy and the word "Camelot". The use of this word dates from an interview Jackie Kennedy gave Theodore H. White days after Kennedy's assassination in which she revealed that the President listened to the music from the Broadway musical "Camelot" before he went to sleep. The movie occurs before his death and uses a word not associated with the president at that time. See more »

What started it all- and still the best
3 June 2000 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This is the best college comedy ever made. Nothing has ever come close to comedic perfection, and never will again. The early bird director John Landis directs this film into greatness bringing stars John Belushi, Tim Matheson, Tom Hulce, Mark Metcalf and Donald Sutherland to the screen in brilliance. True, this film is just about a bunch of misfits defying authority in a campus of 1962, but that's what makes it so good, and original. Belushi, Metcalf, and others bring many of the laughs here, but it is mainly it's reputation that brings this film into hilarity. A landmark in cinema comedy. By the way, screenwriters Harold Ramis and Chris Miller originally were going to make this a film about Charles Manson called Laser Orgy Girls, so thank god Douglas Kenney came in and straightened this out to the right part.
