Trivia

In the original draft of the script, the sorority sisters were transformed into barnyard animals. ABC executives balked at the notion and targeted this and other special FX sequences that were beyond the limitations of filmmaking at the time to be rewritten. See more »

None too original, but fun and spooky
7 July 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

People can be so cruel sometimes. The popular kids are always picking on the shy ones. It's satisfying when that so-called loser ends up doing well while their tormentors fail at life. Of course, in the world of Horror films the revenge is far more sinister. 'Carrie' is the most well known and probably best film about an outcast getting back at the bullies in the worst way. Not surprisingly, it inspired similar films through the rest of the decade. This one in particular isn't half bad.

Pros: Good performances, especially by Kay Lenz. Beautiful, at times chilling score. Has more depth than you may expect. Moves at a swift pace. Quite well directed for a TV movie. Some camp value. Spooky ambiance, greatly enhanced by the PED sorority house.

Cons: Dated. Derivative of 'Carrie.' Some plot holes.

Final thoughts: There's just something about these made-for-TV Horror movies from the 70s. Sure they're a bit cheesy, but they're just so much darn fun and often creepy. 'The Initiation of Sarah' is hardly a classic, but it's got more going for it than a lot of studio Horror these days. Watch it with the lights out and see if you can sleep after.

My rating: 3.5/5
