Sad and tragic couple
milton-freddy27 December 2013
Being the first film from Bille August this story is focusing on a narrow theme close to heart. The two young people finding each other are unable to get their relationship to blossom being brought up in an environment lacking emotions and communication and not able to free themselves from that past. Instead, they are lured into the trap of consumer society, which proved to be a dead end for people in the 60'es eventually causing the young generation to revolt and claim changes. However, our young couple are not able to stand up for themselves, so it becomes a sad and tragic story of unfulfilled longings. This theme may not have hit at the box office, but it indicates a talented young director on the move. The shift between scenes is impressive, and the scarce dialog only adds to the bleak view of a cramped society unable to reflect any true emotions.
