£350,000 funding boost for Leicester’s Asian theatre producing company Phizzical

We are super excited to announce that Arts Council England is investing more than £350,000 in Phizzical for a national tour of Bring on the Bollywood. This fun family experience is also a finalist for the Best Theatre Production at this year’s Asian Media Awards. 

The money from Arts Council’s Strategic Touring programme will enable us to perform this vibrant romantic comedy at theatres, including Vivacity Key Theatre, Hall for Cornwall and The New Wolsey.  Bring on the Bollywood is being produced in partnership with the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, where the research and development for first run of the show took place earlier this year before it opened to rave reviews from local audiences.

The Asian Media Awards showcase the very best talent working in Asian media and creative industries. The winners will be announced on the 27 October at The Hilton, Manchester.

BAFTA to Honor Comedian, Actor, Writer Lenny Henry at TV Awards

London — The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is set to honor British comedian, actor and writer Lenny Henry. He will receive BAFTA’s Special Award in recognition of his “outstanding creative contribution to television” at the British Academy Television Awards on May 8.

Krishnendu Majumdar, chair of BAFTA’s Television Committee, said: “There is no one more deserving of the Special Award this year than Lenny Henry. He has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a performer and writer, appearing in dozens of shows from ‘Tiswas’ to the hugely popular ‘Lenny Henry Show,’ and most recently in the drama ‘The Syndicate,’ proving his appeal spans all generations and genres.”

Pop culture comes to life in St. Louis this weeekend! It’s the Wizard World Comic Con April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at America’s Center downtown (701 Convention Plaza – St. Louis, Mo 63101), and boy oh boy, do they have an amazing line-up of guests!

Wizard World Comic Con events bring together thousands of fans of all ages to celebrate the best in pop-fi, pop culture, movies, graphic novels, cosplay, comics, television, sci-fi, toys, video gaming, gaming, original art, collectibles, contests and more. St. Louis show hours are Friday, April 1st, 3-8 p.m.; Saturday, April 2nd, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday, April 3rd, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
