Season 1, Episode 1: Digger's Daughter

Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes shock their respective families when they reveal they have married. This revelation renews an age-old feud between the two families, and J.R. Ewing, Bobby's older brother, schemes to break them up using ranch hand Ray Krebbs, who once dated Pamela.

After hearing Ray trying to pawn the job off on one of the ranch hands, Pam gets more than she bargained for after arranging to see that Lucy gets to school when Lucy takes matters into her own hands by scheming to get out of going. Meanwhile, JR deals with his little brother, Bobby, by ducking him when Bobby tries to find out how JR is so successful when it comes to dealing with other independent oil companies.

When Cliff gets his hands on a document proving dirty dealings between a state senator and Ewing Oil, he turns it over to the State of Texas for investigation. But, after finding out about a possible mole, JR turns on Pam, putting her marriage to Bobby in serious jeopardy.

A bad storm blows into the Dallas area, along with a couple of strangers from Waco who look to get even with JR and Ray, who seemingly took advantage of their own women the previous night. With the hands off for the day to attend a festival in San Antonio, the ranch looks even more deserted when the only ones packing guns and giving orders on Southfork are the strangers.

Season 2, Episode 5: Black Market Baby

After over seven years of futility of becoming a mother, Sue Ellen decides to attempt adoption behind JR's back. After finding a young woman who's willing to give up her baby, Sue Ellen unexpectedly bonds with the young lady. Bobby is not too thrilled at the prospect of his wife, Pamela, turning down the idea of a baby while contemplating the idea of returning to the work force.

Pam's secret comes out when her ex-husband returns to Dallas after having been locked in a Vietnamese prison camp and several years in a hospital. Only her ex-husband, Ed, claims that their marriage was never annulled, and no one can find any documents to prove otherwise, which not only hurts Bobby emotionally, but financially, as his new construction company has trouble getting off the ground with a church looking to build a new school.

Meanwhile, Ray comes across the name of a roughneck who was supposedly working on an oil crew on Section 40.

On the other hand, Bobby, intent on saving his marriage, does his best to get Cliff out of the jam he's in.

Season 2, Episode 19: Sue Ellen's Sister

With Pam still living outside of Southfork, Sue Ellen's sister, Kristin, sets her sights on Bobby, and JR is very happy to see that and is more than willing to help her. Cliff's new found power results in an attack of the Ewings, particularly over a parcel of land that is costing Ewing Oil a lot of money when a land owner is not willing to allow them to drill for oil until he gets more for the royalties that may be involved.

JR finds out that a friend of Pam's used to be a friend of his, as well, and has no problem taking advantage of that former friendship in an attempt to put some muscle on the man who put Cliff Barnes in power as head of the OLM. Bobby and Ray cross paths with the son of another independent oil man while attempting to corner some cattle rustlers. Sue Ellen's drinking begins to get the better of her, which only infuriates JR.

J.R. sees Lucy's engagement to Kit Mainwaring as a way to serve the common interests of Ewing Oil and Mainwaring Oil, in spite of Kit's revelation of his homosexuality.

Unable to rid Cliff Barnes of his power on their own, the Ewings turn to Sam Culver in an attempt to prove the state government that Cliff is abusing his authority in matters concerning Ewing Oil. Sam, a former senator and governor, has a lot of friends that would listen to him... if the Ewings can only get him to speak on their behalf. Unfortunately, JR's involvement in Sam's marriage to a woman much younger than he only further complicates matters, rather than simplifying them.

Season 2, Episode 23: John Ewing III: Part 1

JR has enough with his family and their concern over the danger Sue Ellen goes through with her drinking. Having her institutionalized only infuriates her to the point where she escapes, only to get in an accident which puts the life of her baby as well as her own at greater risk.

Sue Ellen desperately wants to get out of the sanitarium. She refuses to speak to J.R., but confesses to Bobby that Cliff Barnes is most likely the father of her baby. Both Miss Ellie and Jock confront J.R. with the way he's been neglecting his wife. Sue Ellen manages to get her hands on some alcohol even in the sanatorium and escapes in a car, only to get into an accident.

Season 3, Episode 1: Whatever Happened to Baby John?: Part 1

Sue Ellen returns to Southfork and neglects returning to Dallas to visit her son, much to the chagrin of the rest of the family. Bobby takes it upon himself to run interference for JR when Cliff continues poking around the hospital. On the ranch, a virus begins taking livestock and concerns Jock and Ray.

Season 3, Episode 2: Whatever Happened to Baby John?: Part 2

28 September 1979
The family gathers itself at Southfork after the baby is kidnapped. Bobby goes after Cliff, thinking he's taken JR's son, while Jock is sent on a wild goose chase. JR, meanwhile, gets a call from some old friends who claim to have something to do with the kidnapping.

Season 3, Episode 3: The Silent Killer

5 October 1979
Digger Barnes returns to Dallas and collapses in Cliff's apartment which is followed by a visit to the hospital and it's revealed that Digger carries a neurological disease that turns out to be hereditary. Although Cliff and Pam are fine, any children that they may bear have a lower-than-normal mortality rate, which puts Pam's marriage to Bobby in jeopardy and Cliff wonders about his son... John Ross Ewing III.

Valene returns and tries to win a resistant Lucy's understanding. Pam discovers she is pregnant and struggles with how to tell Bobby about both the baby and her own recently discovered genetic disease.

Jock, Bobby, J.R. and Ray take time off to go on a hunting trip. Once there they encounter a farmer who Jock strong armed 40 years ago and who is seeking revenge. Afraid he might not make it out of the encounter Jock confides a secret to J.R. and asks him to do something that might bring J.R.'s recent shady dealings to light. Back at the ranch Miss Ellie takes advantage of the men's absence to make a worrying doctor's appointment.

Bobby becomes close to the son of one of the ranch hands. Pam tries to find a way to tell Bobby about the risk to their unborn child. J.R. becomes suspicious of Sue Ellen and hires a detective to follow her.

Jock and Miss Ellie contemplate divorce. J.R. hatches a plan to sell Ewing Oil to avoid seeing it broken up in a divorce settlement. MItch continues to resent Lucy's "Young Miss Dallas" job. Cliff starts to suspect J.R.'s interference in the Asian revolution. Pan warns their mother not to trust Cliff.

Season 4, Episode 20: Ewing vs. Ewing

Bobby finds a compromise on the Tapaka project, but this fails to reconcile Jock and Miss Ellie. Ray and Donna confront Miss Ellie about what they suspect is the real problem. J.R. makes arrangements to sell Ewing Oil. Pam tells Cliff their mother is still alive.

Season 4, Episode 21: New Beginnings

Jock and Miss Ellie go on a second honeymoon, which is bad for J.R.'s plan to sell Ewing Oil. Donna threatens J.R. when he sets Ray up for failure. Cliff is conflicted about meeting his mother. J.R. and Sue Ellen's peace is broken by a call from Kristin.

Season 4, Episode 22: Full Circle

Kristin returns. Dusty and Sue Ellen reunite. Lucy moves out of the condo. Cliff brings evidence against J.R. to the senate committee. J.R. plans his divorce. Cliff meets with his mother.

Season 4, Episode 23: Ewing-Gate

1 May 1981
Sue Ellen leaves J.R. but he prevents her taking John Ross with her. Sue Ellen asks Pam for help. J.R. manages to squirm out of the Senate investigation. Cliff accuses Bobby of helping him. Bobby asks Cliff to meet him at Southfork to discuss it. Cliff makes a shocking discovery when he arrives there.

Season 5, Episode 1: Missing Heir

9 October 1981
J.R. & Cliff recognize the corpse in the Ewing pool, then promptly accuse each other of murder. Pam takes John Ross to Sue Ellen. The Sheriff learns who shot J.R.

Season 5, Episode 2: Gone But Not Forgotten

16 October 1981
J.R. and Cliff testify about the death. J.R. tries to take advantage of Sue Ellen leaving the Southern Cross to arrange the funeral to kidnap John Ross back but is foiled by Dusty. Cliff has no luck finding a new job or convincing anyone to move against Bobby for ethics violations. Bobby and Pam start an attempt to adopt but find out the wait is long.

Season 5, Episode 3: Showdown at San Ángelo

J.R. uses Miss Ellie to gain access to the Southern Cross and John Ross. Ellie and Clayton meet and agree the custody issues is not their fight. J.R. threatens Sue Ellen and when that fails tries to convince Ellie to kidnap John Ross.

Season 5, Episode 4: Little Boy Lost

J.R. and Sue Ellen go to court to decide custody of John Ross. Miss Ellie tells J.R. that she won't stand for any mudslinging and attends the hearing to see if he obeys.

Season 5, Episode 5: The Sweet Smell of Revenge

6 November 1981
Pam goes missing. J.R. starts a new plot to blackmail the Farlows into making Sue Ellen leave but buying up all the available crude to destroy their refinery. Bobby gets a letter with a picture of Kristin and her baby and an offer of more information for sale. After hours of searching the police find Pam...at the edge of a buildings roof.

Season 5, Episode 6: The Big Shut Down

13 November 1981
Clayton Farlow stands firm against J.R. Pam begins psychiatric treatment. Kristin's lover sells Bobby the child's birth certificate and checks Kristin received from Texas. Pam meets her sister Katherine.

Season 5, Episode 7: Blocked

20 November 1981
Bobby talks to Jordan Lee who denies being the father of Kristin's baby. Clayton refuses to throw out Sue Ellen, despite J.R.'s control of the oil.The price of oil starts to drop, making J.R.'s plan much riskier.

Season 5, Episode 8: The Split

27 November 1981
Ellie receives a legal document from Jock that affects control of Ewing Oil while he is in South America. Ellie gathers the family, including Gary and Val to explain what it means.

Season 5, Episode 9: Five Dollars a Barrel

4 December 1981
J.R. finds himself in financial hot water and must broker an extension of his loan. Cliff takes advantage of J.R.'s hot spot to get some concessions. Pam is allowed to leave the hospital and visit Southfork.

Season 5, Episode 10: Starting Over

11 December 1981
Miss Ellie decides to give Ray a loan to help him out and discovers what J.R. has been up to. Sue Ellen realizes Dusty won't be happy with her and leaves the Southern Cross. Bobby buys Kristin's baby, thinking J.R. the father and brings the baby home to confront. J.R. He lingers in the hall when he hears Miss Ellie arguing with J.R. and Pam comes downstairs, sees the baby and jumps to the wrong conclusion.
