The film was passed uncut by Swedish censors, leaving one particular scene of sado-masochistic homosexual behavior intact. Sjoman is on record as saying that the censors didn't cut it because they didn't want to bring attention to it.
Three studios and the Swedish Film Institute declined. Actors who were invited to participate in the film, declined. But Harry Schein, Ingmar Bergman and Jörn Donner, for example - felt it was an exciting script.
