Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

In the opening sequence, a Rebel ship is pursued by an Imperial Star Destroyer which both release laser fire from opposing sides. The Imperial ship then uses a "tractor beam" and pulls them into the ship's hull, where Stormtroopers attack the crew on the Rebel ship with consequent laser fire blasted at them. The Rebels create a defense mechanism and fire upon them also, but are overpowered. We see soldiers fall dead when hit by gunfire and their bodies lying on the ground.

Darth Vader lifts a man off the floor by his throat, and subsequently strangles him to death before throwing him to the floor. The sound of bones being crushed can be heard as the man is strangled. No blood or disfigurement is shown.

Darth Vader is shown to strangle a man half to death using the Force. We see and hear him moan and writhe, struggling to breath until Vader releases him.

After learning that Stormtroopers attacked his homestead, Luke sees the burned and smoking bodies of his Aunt and Uncle lying on the ground. They are skeletons. Very brief, but somewhat disturbing.

Obi-Wan Kenobi cuts off the arm of an attacker with his lightsaber who was threatening him with a gun. In this scene, the severed arm is shown lying on the ground with some blood around and in it.

Han Solo is involved in a shooting early on in the film, when he shoots a gangster looking to capture him (in pre-cuts of the film, Han is shown to shoot before the gangster has made any indication of being about to fire, later cuts soften this to Han responding in self-defense after being fired upon).

There are numerous scenes of gunplay, all of which leave no visible wounds. Grand Moff Tarkin has an entire planet by the Death Star's large ray weapon, destroyed merely as a show of force, killing billions of people and other lifeforms in the process.

The heroes shoot numerous objects in a jail reception center aboard the Death Star, as well as the guards. We see several blasted with gun rays and fall dead when hit.

Darth Vader and Obi-Wan have a fierce lightsaber duel for some time. After seeing that the trio of heroes need to escape nearby, Obi-Wan allows himself to be killed, upon where Vader decapitates him, only to find that his body disappears, leaving his cloak and lightsaber on the ground.

Numerous characters die in the space battle sequence near the end of the film, some of them are shown at the moment their craft explode, while screaming as they plunge to their death in fireballs.

A massive space station ignites into an enormous shockwave/explosion that kills all life forms on board.

The violence is intense, but there is no blood visible and if so, in one or two scenes for a brief moment.

Two uses of "Hell" and "Damn" plus one "G-----n."

There is a scene early on in the film set at a bar. Numerous characters are drinking unidentified beverages, presumed to be alcoholic. One character in the scene is seen smoking a hookha, another appears to be smoking a cigarette on a holder.

The opening space battle sequence is intense and may be very unsettling for some.

Darth Vader's appearance and bizarre mask/helmet could frighten young viewers.

While looking through a pair of binoculars, Luke suddenly sees a tusken raider appear in front of the lens and attack him with a rod. This is a very jumpy and frightening moment.

The scene where Luke finds his Aunt and Uncle's burned and decayed skeletons is frightening and very disturbing.

The scene where a planet is destroyed by the Death Star's powerful gun could disturb young and old viewers alike.

Luke and company end up in a trash compacter that poses two threats. First, a creature lurks under the floating garbage and then attacks and pulls Luke under. Second, the walls of the giant trash compactor begin closing in and it's all the group can do to survive as Luke desperately contacts their droid companions who manage to stop the walls and open the door out.

In the final battle's trench run, Luke's wingmen are killed or forced to disengage one by one by Darth Vader pursuing and shooting them. As the music builds in intensity, Vader is about to shoot down Luke until the Millennium Falcon suddenly attacks out of the starlight to remove the hero's pursuers.
