Kenny Brian revealed, Emma Stone loves Jennifer Lawrence, Sofia Vergara thinks it’s Ok to pay for sex

Happy Easter! Please overeat, hide some eggs and overindulge on chocolate that a strange rabbit broke into your home to leave for you.

Shall we get the Bryan Singer news out of the way first? Singer’s lawyer says they have proof that Singer wasn’t in Hawaii during the times named in the lawsuits, including credit card bills, phone records and shooting schedules.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for the accuser says that he plans to file three more lawsuits in Hawaii against other individuals for taking sexual advantage of his client via the same party circuit that Singer is accused of being a part of. He’ll then be filing other lawsuits in California against more Hollywood insiders. He also announced Egan is taking part in a documentary from Amy Berg about Hollywood sex abuses. »

Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighter Engagement Rings

12 hours ago | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

We have featured a lot of Star Wars rings on the site before, including this R2D2 inspired ring by jeweler Paul Michael Bierker of Paul Michael Designs. Well, Paul has been in his studio cranking out more awesome Star Wars fine jewelry, like his X-Wing and Tie Fighter engagement rings. The Tie Fighter ring can be crafted from gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, and features a 1 ct black diamond. I don’t have specs on the X-Wing ring because it hasn’t hit his etsy store yet. He posted it on his Facebook page last week. Hopefully it is available for purchase soon because wedding season is coming, and engagement season follows right on its heels. Check out his shop even if you aren't ready for that level of commitment, he has tons of geeky jewelry anyone would love.

David Lynch Subverted a Franchise to Ensure a Sequel to ‘Dune’ was Impossible

18 April 2014 12:30 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Anyone who knows David Lynch’s work is familiar with his penchant for messing with the audience. One only has to look at how he ended his popular series Twin Peaks, or pretty much any part of the mind-bending Eraserhead, to realize this. Even though in the early 1980s, Lynch had been courted as a potential director for some major films (including Return of the Jedi… wouldn’t you have liked to see the Ewoks in that version?), he had his big studio break with the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. While it was a commercial and critical failure, Dune also represents Lynch’s subversive filmmaking nature, more than some people even realize. At the time, Hollywood was looking for the next Star Wars, much like how they are furiously searching for the next Hunger Games now with films like Divergent and The Maze Runner. Dune had been in development since the early 1970s, and »

'Sorcerer' Blu-ray Review

18 April 2014 11:07 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I interviewed William Friedkin back in 2012 (read part one here and part two here) and asked about the status of Sorcerer back then, knowing of the legal issues it was facing as Paramount and Universal couldn't seem to decide who owned the rights to the film. Friedkin was suing both studios in order to figure that out and hopefully get a remastered version of, what I believe is best called a "cult classic" at this point, the film released. Two years later, it finally arrives courtesy of Warner Home Video in all its tension laden madness. While Friedkin doesn't like the term, Sorcerer is a remake of French director Henri-Georges Clouzot's Wages of Fear (which itself was based on Georges Arnaud's novel), an amazing movie and one I've written about before, including my 2009 review of the Criterion Blu-ray. I can understand Friedkin's aversion to the word "remake" as »

Star Wars "What If" Art by Tony Warne — Vader Redeemed

18 April 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Artist Tony Warne, aka Jedi-Art-Trick, has created a lot of Star Wars art. We are featuring just a few pieces today, and the most interesting one he's simply titled "Leia and Vader," but as you can see, the art doesn't fit any canon storyline.

Warne had this to say about the piece:

This was just me really wanting to paint a redeemed (yet still alive) Darth Vader and Leia wearing a white getup like Padme wore in episode 2, just for fun. The idea came from the Star Wars Infinites Return of the Jedi comic, in which Vader is actually saved by Luke and Leia and turns away from the dark side, joining the rebellion. In the last panel, he dons a completely white suit of his armor. I thought that was a neat idea, but the white armor was a bit much. I just wanted to give a little more "sith-turned-jedi" vibe from him, »

Which Bad Movies Have Absolutely Brilliant Soundtracks?

18 April 2014 8:28 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Walt Disney Pictures

We tend to take sound for granted when it comes to the movies; unless it’s done badly, you rarely notice it or appreciate all the effort that has gone into making sure everything matches up. But whereas that might be the case for the sound effects and sound mixing department, it can’t really be said for soundtracks, which – if done correctly – are usually one of the major aspects that stick in your memory long after a flick is over. Walking out of a movie theatre – and given the soundtrack was awesome – you almost always end up leaving humming the title theme.

Soundtracks are an essential part of the cinematic experience, of course: try and imagine classic films like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or The Good, the Bad and the Ugly without their iconic musical cues – it’s probably not inaccurate to say that none of »

TCM: Anna Kendrick ♥s "The Women" (So do we.)

It's Diana's last report from the TCM Film Festival which closed this weekend. One more from Anne Marie is coming up and it's a wrap. Take it away, Diana...

Ben & Anna Kendrick at The Women screening

In one of the few overlaps in our Tcmff schedule, Anne Marie and I sat down for the all-star classic The Women (1939). We've both watched the film a countless number of times - it's such a treat. The El Capitan organist played a variety of film standards (including the Star Wars theme) as we chuckled and waited for the introduction. The cherry on top? Anna Kendrick, cool girl exemplar, was the special guest, there to introduce the comedy classic alongside TCM stalwart (and object of many TCM fangirls’ affections) Ben Mankiewicz.

Walking out on stage, Kendrick sported a chic yet casual look with a black tee, black skinny jeans and black heeled boots paired »

Divergent review: girls just wanna do everything

17 April 2014 2:45 PM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

No, it’s not wildly different than other science fiction, hero’s journey, and adventure movies. Sometimes we call such stories archetypal. Mythic, even. I’m “biast” (pro): I am eager for movies — especially genre movies — with female protagonists

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I have not read the source material

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Now see that, Hollywood! That wasn’t so hard, was it? To make a movie about a young woman doing cool kickass stuff and being the master of her own destiny… it didn’t sting too terribly much, did it, now? It looks like she might even get to save the world or something by the time the last of three-books-turned-into-four-movies comes around, and that won’t hurt, will it?

I hear the cries: “But Hunger Games!” Yes, Hunger Games. And? If there’s room enough in the »

FilmLook at 25: Company Evolves From Mimics To Maestros

17 April 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Back in 1989, when videotape was king in TV production and post, filmmaker-engineer Robert A. Faber invented a process called FilmLook — manipulating video to make it appear more like film by mimicking film’s gray scale, contrast, grain and frame rate (24 frames per second instead of video’s 30fps).

“We ran into a lot of opposition,” recalls Faber. “People who were involved in film-shot television thought we were sacrilegious.” But in 1992 the TV Academy recognized FilmLook with a plaque for Achievement in Engineering Development, and the process found a market in TV productions that wanted a cinematic feel.

Today the original FilmLook process is defunct, but the company is changing with the times. “There’s still a perception that the only service we offer is making video look like film, but we’re a full-service post house,” Faber says.

With digital cameras supplanting both film and videotape, Faber sees the 24fps look surviving and thriving. »
