The version broadcast on television contained a lot of footage not seen in the theatrical version. The footage was allegedly shot by Stephanie Rothman, new for the TV sale, not scenes deleted from the original version. This version was also available on VHS tape. An Unusually Complex Drive-In Movie Featuring a Knockout Performance By Piper Laurie
Piper Laurie; fresh from her Oscar nominated role in Carrie plays Ruby Claire, a hard drinking former starlet who's career was derailed by scandal. After the murder of her gangster boyfriend, Ruby was left to raise her strangely mute daughter Leslie in a seedy drive in staffed by the aging hoods Ruby once called her friends...the same men who killed the only man she ever loved. Nick's soul does not rest easy and he proves more dangerous in death than in life. Ruby is a very densely written horror movie from director Curtis Harrington and a showcase role for Laurie. It's more fascinating to watch than it is scary but genre fans will find much of it quite absorbing. Harrington was removed from the film at some point and replaced by an uncredited director.
