Originally intended as the pilot episode for a television series in 1978. By the time the episode was broadcast in November 1977 Leif Garrett had released his first album for Atlantic Records, and hoped the series would help his music career. However the network decided not to commission a full series. Although there was later talk of reviving "Peter Lundy" as a series, Garrett was no longer able to act full time due to his music commitments.
Leif Garrett's hair had to be tied back in a ponytail to make him appear older on screen. Fortunately this style was historically accurate for the time period.
Leif Garrett was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame because of this television film.
The ranch had previously been used for "Shoot Out" in 1971 with Gregory Peck, which featured Leif Garrett's younger sister Dawn Lyn.
Leif Garrett was already an excellent horse rider from starring in "God's Gun" and "Kid Vengeance". He did all of his own horse riding in this television film.
