In her opening speech, Amyl Nitrate tells us that her favourite song is "Don't Dream It, Be It". That song was written for The Rocky Horror Show (filmed as The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)) by co-star Richard O'Brien, who plays court magician John Dee.

While the film was still in its conceptual stage, Derek Jarman would describe it by saying, 'I'm making a film about Punk.' He later admitted that this was an oversimplification, and that he felt that the film touched on subjects that were much bigger than the punk movement.

Vivienne Westwood was openly critical of Jubilee, feeling that it was boring and completely misinterpreted the punk movement, and went so far as to create a t-shirt that features her very negative opinion. This "Open T-Shirt To Derek Jarman from Vivienne Westwood" is now in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

Designer Vivienne Westwood created her famous 'Open T shirt to Derek Jarman from Vivienne Westwood', a white cotton sleeveless t-shirt with a very negative review of the film printed on it. This t-shirt is now housed at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, where it is item T.104-2002.

Amyl Nitrite proclaims that her heroine, as a young school girl, was Myra Hindley. Hindley and Ian Brady were responsible for the so-called Moors Murders, which occurred in and around Manchester between mid-1963 and late-1965. Their five victims were all children between the ages of 10 and 17.
