Did You Know?

Paul Naschy omitted his name as an actor from all the promotional material for this movie (centering it around María José Cantudo and Ágata Lys), to prevent the audiences from thinking this was the usual Naschy spook stuff. He, however, appears on it as a director under his real name, Jacinto Molina. See more »

One of the most appreciated films of Paul Naschy
12 July 2015 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

It is the second film directed by Naschy after "Inquisición" (1976) is written by Jacinto Molina and Antonio Fos, a solid writer and contributor to, among others, Eloy De La Iglesia in the scripts of several of his early films as "Cuadrilátero"(1971), "La Semana Del Asesino" (1973), and other great titles of Fantaterror like "Una Vela Al Diablo" (Eugenio Martin, 1973), "Joven De Bueno Familia Sospecha De Asesinato"(Alfonso Brecia, 1972), "La Noche De La Orgía De Los Vampiros (León Klimovsky, 1974) or again with Paul Naschy, "Latidos De Pánico (1983).

The film was shot in Algete (Madrid) as well as in real scenarios in Peñaflor and Sevilla, it has a cast that mixes young actresses of the time, like Maria Jose Cantudo, Agate Lys, Silvia Tortosa and Julia Saly with reputed veterans Jose Calvo, Jose Nieto and Carlos Casaravilla. Although the film is not faithful to the event as dramatic license is taken, the film is perfectly set as Jacinto Molina investigated in place of the events taking advantage of natural settings to give more credence to the narrative. Something that was not easy for the principal task as looking where authentic orchard was found that "when I asked the locals about the sinister place nobody knew anything. There had never been such a place in Peñaflor. I noticed that the garden was totally taboo. " Thanks to the collaboration of the parish priest could have access to valuable documentation and access to the garden, which left only the walls. Thus, "thanks to the priest I could shoot the facade of authentic home of Juan Andres Aldije, apart from the actual walls of the garden, the church where they married the terrible serial murderer and the beautiful" Elvira "(Julia Saly) and decorating, an inn that belonged to Muñoz Lopera ". He could also shoot in the actual place where the guilty are executed them in Seville, become a stable that had to be cleaned. All this was filmed with a dark interior photography that adds dirt and squalor. "It's kind of box bloodied Julio Romero De Torres, perfectly recreating 1906. The climax is perfect and has a deep social burden reflects that grim black Spain, deep Andalusia". Interior dirty and dark as human types that shows the director at the habitat, as opposed to the luminosity of the Andalusian sky, its fields and the character played by Julia Saly. A present contrast on the same face of the murderer, his manager suddenly darkens in some shots to show their sinister double life. Its dark side.

The role of the protagonist, Juan Andrés Aldije nicknamed the French, I reserve the same Naschy where he is one of his best performances, while Jose Calvo made his accomplice, José Muñoz Lopera. As female actresses, the film features two popular actresses of the seventies: María José Cantudo and Agata Lys. Cantudo became very popular for starring in the first frontal nudity in the Spanish cinema with "La Trastienda" (Jorge Grau, 1976), has a long career behind him, one of the few actresses who has survived keeping uncover stage its popularity. Her role in "El Huerto Del Francés" is a poor naive girl, pregnant by Aldije to discover the whole plot of the murders while convalescing after a sordid clandestine abortion that is bound by it.

Agate Lys (Margarita Garcia Sansegundo) is a great screen actress. It was the Spanish flagship uncover and appeared in many films in which generously showed his rotund anatomy, as in the case of "El Huerto Del Francés", where she will make hard lover of Aldije prostitute. After wasting her film career in movies where the claim was only physical, she decides to focus on drama and abandon her blonde dye, which had given her such popularity, herself cutting her long hair. With a very personal voice, Agate has participated in a few horror movies. He acted as protagonist in "Las Alegres Vampiras De Vogel" (Pérez Tabernero), and with Paul Naschy in "El Transsexual" (José Jara, 1977) in the courageous role of the protagonist. Then he showed his caste with good roles in "Los Santos Inocentes" (Mario Camus, 1984) and "Familia" (Fernando Leon De Aranoa, 1996).

The cast also features Silvia Tortosa, another of those veteran actresses whose career and recognition are healthy. He has done quite a lot of TV and film, taking in his films one of the pearls of the Spanish Fantaterror: "Pánico En El Transiberiano" (Eugenio Martin 1972), sharing deal with Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Telly Savalas. The fourth actress is Julia Saly, dancer, known as "La Pocha" that brought her career to Paul Naschy in many titles like "Muerte De Un Quinqui" i (León Klimovsky, 1975), "Inquisición" (Jacinto Molina, 1976 ) "Comando Txikia" (Jose Luis Madrid, 1976), "El Ultimo Deseo" (Leon Klimovsky, 1976), in addition to "Madrid Al Desnudo" (1979), "Los Cántabros" (1980), "El Carnaval De Las Bestias"(1980)," Latidos De Pánico" (1983),"El Ultimo Kamikaze""(1984),"Mi amigo el vagabundo"(1984) and "Operation Mantis"(1985), making that better performance as Condesa Bathory in "Retorno Del Hombre Lobo" (1981), all directed by Jacinto Molina. He was executive producer of Dalmatian and Aconite Films. Also he played several television series produced in Japan and virtually all his movies can swell in the Fantaterror, and also contained in two titles of Amando De Ossorio: "La Noche De Las Gaviotas" (1975) and "Endemoniada " (1975). The cast is full of well-known actors that enrich the film, many of them side with long careers, including: Carlos Casaravilla, who had shared Naschy deal with twice before, in "La Marca Del Hombre Lobo" (López Eguiluz, 1968) and "El Francotirador" (Carlos Puerto, 1978), this being the last work of his life. Jose Nieto, a history of Spanish cinema who began his career in the silent era.
