Andy and Thelma, an urbanite couple living in Madrid, leave their apartment for a pleasant day around the city with their dog. They cross paths with Bruno and Anne, a strange couple who invite them to their foreboding country estate. A storm hits that evening and the two stay overnight. The couples engage in a bit of harmless communication with spirits via ouija board, but soon past conflicts arise Thelma had an affair with Andy's brother, and Anne criticizes Bruno over his attempted suicide. This is only the beginning of all the horrors that will haunts them in the house. Written by Ørnås
I greatly enjoyed this, my first foray into Spanish sleaze. As a sleaze film it does superbly, with a good deal of sex and nudity which is often very erotic. In fact this goes further in the sex department than a lot of exploitation films that I have seen. The film also delivers amply on creepy scenes and there is even a small amount of grisly violence. There is a feel to the film oddly like the art-house classic Last Year At Marienbad, which I am currently studying. Though Satan's Blood shares little apart from a few themes and odd style with the french classic, it is weird to see such a film echoed in this kind of cinema. My main issue was with the plotting. The film has a nice flow to it and a good sense of mounting doom. A lot of creepy stuff happens but the film never really explains what is going down. On a visual level the film is a great nightmarish trip but the actual story is kinda vague. Also, I could have done with more grue to go along with all the sex, but thats a personal preference. Still, a great film, well worth watching to all Eurotrash fans.
