Dull courtroom drama posing as an exploitation film
25 July 2008 | by (Worcester, MA) – See all my reviews

"The Electric Chair" comes as the bonus feature on Something Weird's DVD of "Axe". While "Axe" was a typical yet effective backwoods brutality exploitation flick, "The Electric Chair" tries to do something different and fails. Its merely a very dull courtroom drama posing as an exploitation film. There are a few nice moments of weirdness and the film is certainly different, but I don't feel like sitting through a lengthy amount of not remotely compelling courtroom logistics. Ultimately, there's really nothing memorable about this homemade production. The characters are poorly constructed, the outcome of the trail is predictable, and overall the film has potential but fails. There is a nice electric chair sequence, an overall weird atmosphere, and a briefly gory murder at the beginning, but thats about it. (4/10)
