Many viewers consider this version of "Dracula" to be the closest adaptation of the book, as it includes a number of scenes that other movie adaptations usually leave out. This includes a scene where Dracula confronts his vampire brides in the castle and satisfies their blood lust by giving them a small baby to consume. This production also includes the material involving Mina and Dr. Van Helsing in the forest near Dracula's castle, where they are menaced by the vampire brides.

But this film also takes a number of liberties with Stoker's story. For instance, Mina and Lucy are actually sisters here. There are also a number of differences at the climax, which greatly reduces the role that Mina plays in finding the Count after he has made his escape from London, as well as some scenes that have been invented for the film.
