this was a series the beeb came up with following the wake of successful, similar cop shows it's other channel counterpart was throwing up the same time a'la 'the sweeney' ("SHUT ETT!"). basic plot revolved around a special police squad led by paddy mower who every 5 minutes kept encountering armed gunmen, sadistic thugs, serial killers and bad script writers. every once in a while, somebody would get their head blown off or go flying through a window so the stuntmen got regular work. all in a days work and a typical far fetched t.v. cop show in other words. it caused a bit of controversy when first aired due to it's excessive, gratuitous violence which probably wouldn't be shown in these politically correct days. thank god!
