Worth Looking At For The Mild Lost In Space Connection, 26 April 2006
Author: StuOz

When looking this series up in the IMDb I was amazed to discover that only 15 episodes of this series were produced! Good Lord! I can only guess that Australia kept re-running the episodes to make me think that more episodes were actually produced?

This series was apart of my 1970s childhood, in Sydney Australia it screened at 11:30am on Saturday mornings with re-runs of Lost In Space then following at midday! Clever programming!

However, in childhood I felt that, in Space Academy, Jonathan Harris was just too unlike his Dr Smith character and I struggled to warm to 1970s Harris...I was a kid stuck in the 1960s! But it was not all bad news, in childhood, I remember being thrilled by some of the low budget alien planets seen in Space Academy.

In recent years I have seen stills of this series planted on the net and, frankly, it all looks rather average in this century. I also discovered that the "special effects" guy in charge had no effects experience before Space Academy! Do you also remember Filmation's Ark 11 series? The bus-like vehicle in that series looks like a spacecraft in Space Academy.

Space Academy deserves a DVD rental...mainly for the mild Lost In Space connection.
