His friend, trapper Guthrie, suggests to ask the white men in a nearby settlement for help, but the white people, learning that Wintehawk's people are infected by smallpox, drive him away. Then two fur trappers/smugglers kill Winterhawk's companion. In retribution, Winterhawk abducts a young woman, named Clayanna, and her daughter from the settlement and takes her away. Clayanna's father organizes a posse of several trackers to follow Winterhawk and his band of warriors to get Clayanna back at any cost.
