The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

7/10

A prostitute makes several sexual advances to him, which Travis overtly refuses and is disgusted by.

The fact that a main character is an underage teenage prostitute may offend some viewers.

Travis has a similarly nonsexual fascination with pornography and frequents the theaters. When he first walks into a theater, we hear muffled moaning and see a quick shot of the projector displaying the film and what looks to be pubic hair, but it is not clear. This is a very short scene and is decently mild.

There is a scene where a man and a woman visit a porn theater, we see few shots of a porn film which is playing which seems to be an orgy. We see some bare butts of a few characters pleasing a woman. The scene lasts for only a couple of seconds. We also see graphic X-ray images of penetration (split-second shots).

Violence & Gore

10/10

Very strong references to violence.

Travis shoots a robber in the face, blood shown in the aftermath. The clerk beats the robber's body with a lead pipe afterwards.

A man aggressively flicks his cigarette at Travis and kicks him on the leg.

Travis shoots a man in the gut, blood spraying on a window behind him.

Travis blows a man's hand off, fingers and chunks of flesh are seen being blown away along with gouts of blood.

Travis is shot in the neck and we see blood pour out.

Travis shoots another man twice more (at a distance).

Travis shoots the hand-less man once more in the arm.

The shot man cries out in anger and pain, uttering bouts of death threats and profanity.

Travis is shot in the shoulder.

Travis shoots a man numerous times in the face (we see bullet holes in his face) and in the chest, the man then making erratic death movements until he collapses on the floor.

Wounded man tries to beat Travis.Travis wrestles with the man until he produces a knife and stabs him through his remaining hand. he then executes the man and his blood and brains explode onto the wall.

Travis tries to shoot himself only to find that there aren't any bullets left in any of his guns.

Travis sits on a couch covered in blood, pretending to shoot himself with bloodied fingers.

The camera pans around the scene of the massacre and we see a bloody wall, bloody footprints, another wall that is particularly gore-covered, and we see a few gory corpses.

With the exception of the first and second event, all of these acts of violence occur in one scene

Profanity

9/10

Frequent uses of the f-word and s-word, scattered use of racial slurs, two gay slurs, uses of p---y(sometimes sexually) and one use of "c-nt". Man describes to other man what he could do to a prostitute for money using explicit sexual dialogue.

Another man talks about his sexual experience with a hooker. Mild

4/10

Travis is offered a laundry list of drugs from a traveling gun salesman. He refuses the drugs, saying he's not into them.

Travis is fascinated by the underbelly of 1970's New York, including but not limited to drug dealers and drug addicts.

Several characters drink, smoke, and use drugs.

9/10

This film is not for children. There are some very adult themes in this film (deterioration of the human mind, the link between sex and violence, male pattern aggression, urban alienation, and open sexuality)

Travis plans to kill a presidential candidate, but he does not.

Travis kills four men through the course of the film, each time very graphically, particularly in the final act (onscreen)

The fact that a main character is a teenage prostitute may also offend some viewers

Total Explicit Content Estimation: 39/50
