The movie is based on a story by Paul Wheeler called "The Scarlet Buccaneer", this being what the picture was re-titled when released in Great Britain. See more »

Goofs

When Nick and Ned are having their limerick competition, Nick uses the word 'Khaki'. This word is from the Hindustani language and only entered in the English language in the 1840s, through the British Army in India. Given 'Swashbuckler' is set in the 1700s, he could not have known the word. See more »

Quotes

Lynch: [talking to Jane in his rowboat after she hs dived in the sea for a nude swim] What do you want? Well, girl, it's a lot easier to get off a ship with no clothes on than to get back onto a ship with no clothes on.

One of My MOST Favorite Guilty Pleasures
17 March 2001 | by (Redondo Beach, California, USA) – See all my reviews

I LOVE this movie. I don't care how terrible critics might think it is. It's fun, romantic, entertaining, an old fashioned yarn. It came out right after Robert Shaw made a "splash" in Jaws, and he's fabulous as usual. Don't let them make you feel guilty about loving this movie. It's great.
