Blu-ray Review: Rocky: The Undisputed Collection

30 December 2009 12:25 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

“You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.” --Rocky Balboa from the eponymous final film In the final installment of the Rocky series, Sylvester Stallone finally spells out the overlying mantra of the entire series. Rocky, from the start, was never really a film about boxing. It was a beautifully-told love story, between Rocky and Adrianne (Talia Shire) two of life’s down-and-out characters, finding each other in a world that kept dealing them a bad hand. Rocky was a boxer, who never made enough of his career to get out of collecting money for local bosses. Adrian was a quiet, mousy type who worked at a pet shop and lived with her alcoholic brother. »

'Spaceballs' Asks You To Use The Schwartz In Today's Sick Day Stash

16 December 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

With the last name of Schwartz, it's no doubt that my Sick Day Stash preference happens to be "Spaceballs." After having "May the Schwartz be with you!" screamed at me by seven year olds on my school bus for weeks on end, I knew it was time to send my mother to the video store and get my first taste of Mel Brooks. And yes, I was young enough to still be single digits in the 90s. »

Sly Stallone Painting Fetches $90,000

4 December 2009 9:15 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Just when you thought he'd done it all — and was getting ready to do it all over again — we learn that Sylvester Stallone has added another vocation to a list that already includes writer, director, producer...and, of course, actor. The star and director of the forthcoming action ensemble pic The Expendables is also painting.

No, we don't mean slapping a coat of latex on the bathroom walls, we're talking about artistic painting here, as in oil on canvass.

Stallone has already had his collection of art displayed at a gallery in Miami, Florida, and the veteran actor has actually been painting since about 1977. He's just now receiving serious recognition for his work, however.

At the gallery, Las Vegas casino billionaire Steve Wynn bought one of Stallone's abstract pieces for $40,000. Another Stallone painting, "Trapped Ideals", a self-portrait, was bought by an art gallery for $50,000. Stallone finished "Trapped Ideals" in 1977, the »

London, Dec 2 (Ians) Action star Sylvester Stallone has sued the owner of a car company over a vehicle that he insists was stolen from him 15 years ago.

The “Rocky” star claims the custom-built 1950 Mercury, which featured in his movie “Cobra”, was driven away from a storage garage in 1994. Stallone never saw the car again until recently.

The car is now in the possession of a collector who rents out vehicles for movies.

In the legal papers, filed in Los Angeles, Stallone claims he asked the car’s current. »

Blu-Ray Review: Rocky Balboa Fights His Way to ‘Undisputed Collection’

29 November 2009 2:01 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There are very few characters as iconic as Rocky Balboa. A few images, sound bites, or even just a few notes of a song and audiences of the right age are transported back to the first time they saw the Best Picture-winning “Rocky,” the film that made Sylvester Stallone a star over three decades ago. That beloved sports film and the five sequels that followed have been collected on Blu-Ray for the first time in “Rocky: The Undisputed Collection”.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0

The original “Rocky” looks a little more dated with each passing year, but the spirit of the film is still effective. Watching it again for the first time in years, I was struck by how many films that followed it have copied the basic beats and tone of the film. Stallone’s smartest move with “Rocky” was keeping it simple; making it a story to which everyone could relate. »

Two young girls were seen sharing the front seat and its seatbelt, a violation of California state law.

Rocky: The Undisputed Collection – Blu-ray Review

18 November 2009 12:37 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Rocky

Times like these, I hate reviewing classic films. What can I add that hasn’t already been said or covered about the 1976 Best Picture winner? Well, other than what film should have won it, but Rocky is a more than worthy candidate for the statue. It sometimes gets criticism for not showing enough of the epic fight at the end, but I feel that’s a brilliant move as we know these men will go the distance. The performances are excellent, the direction is up to par, and the story is a timeless classic. Truthfully, the alternate ending where Rocky throws the fight would have been interesting to see.

9/10

Rocky II

I’d forgotten what a depressing trip this was, which makes Rocky’s eventual win that much sweeter by the end of the film. This marked Sylvester Stallone’s second directorial debut and for the most part he »

Sylvester Stallone drops sci-fi angle for ‘Rambo V’

14 November 2009 12:53 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Looks like Sylvester Stallone has terminated plans to take Rambo into science fiction.

The 63-year-old revealed this past summer that the next Rambo movie, A Savage Hunt, would feature John Rambo leading a squad into a secret military base to shut down a man-beast mutant “supersoldier” project gone wrong.

The sci-fi plot was based on the novel Hunter by James Byron Higgins. Stallone owns the rights to the book and now plans to use it as source material for another project.

“I’m letting you know that Rambo has changed course and the story about hunting the man/beast will be done using another character in the lead. ‘Rambo’ himself will be heading over the border to a violent city where many young women have vanished. There will be blood,” Stallone wrote in an email.

Rambo heading to Mexico was the first rumored story for the film.

Roger Corman: Scorsese, Stallone, Sayles, and other A-listers talk about the B-movie king

He gave life to teenage cavemen and candy-stripe nurses. Crab monsters and humanoids from the deep. T-bird gangs and towns that dreaded sundown. His name is Roger Corman. And on Nov. 14, he will receive an honor that no one would have predicted: an honorary Academy Award. The 83-year-old B-movie titan has made nearly 400 films as a director and producer. From the start, Corman was a magnet for hungry young actors, writers, and directors who would work for slave wages for the chance to make their first film. They called it the "University of Corman," and the alumni include Francis Ford Coppola, »

Is Rambo 5 Heading Back To Mexico?

12 November 2009 12:57 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

By now you Rambo fans know about Sylvester Stallone’s plans for Rambo 5, which up until now has been tentatively titled The Savage Hunt. Basically, Rambo was going to be sent out to bring down a super-solider turned savage killing machine by a government experiment gone wrong. The official synopsis for the film revealed that this somewhat surprising choice of storyline was actually based on the novel Hunter by author James Byron Huggins.

We here at Screen Rant heard this development and pretty much had the same reaction “Weird… But Cool!” The thought of John Rambo denying life to a “half-human, half-abomination” super-creature seemed like a logical step – after watching bad guys get blown to bloody chunks in Rambo 4, it was obvious that mere humans could no longer stand against the godly might of Rambo.

So color us slightly disappointed as we now are getting a rumor whispered in our ear, »
