Charles Dreyfus escapes from the mental asylum and tries to kill Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. He doesn't succeed at first, so he takes on another strategy, namely to build a Doomsday machine and demand that someone else kills Jacques Clouseau, or Dreyfus will use the machine to wipe out whole cities and even whole countries... With about 22 assassins from all over the globe on his tail, Clouseau decides to find Dreyfus alone and put him back in the mental asylum. Written by Lars J. Aas <larsa@colargol.edb.tih.no>

Did You Know?

Lesley-Anne Down was cast as Olga by mistake. Blake Edwards meant to audition Nicola Pagett, who played Elizabeth Bellamy on Upstairs, Downstairs (1971), but auditioned Ms. Down, who played Georgia Worsley on later episodes of that same series. Julie Andrews commented that she didn't look like the actress in the series, but Edwards blamed the lighting and make-up. See more »

Crazy Credits

The closing credits begin with an animated Inspector Clouseau swimming (from the film's end, where a naked Clouseau and Olga and a clothed Cato plunge into water - animated Clouseau is clothed however). At first the Pink Panther chases him like a shark (complete with the Jaws (1975) tune and poster image), but the Inspector realizes the ruse and chases him for the rest of the credits. See more »

One of the better 'Panther' outings.
15 March 2007 | by (Philippines) – See all my reviews

My Take: Sellers is still strong in this sillier, but just as hilarious, offering.

This is one of my favorite entries in the "Pink Panther" series of films. Peter Sellers is always in his most hilarious as clumsy Inspector Clouseau. Herbert Lom, Lesley Ann-Down and Burt Kwouk give superb supporting roles. And Blake Edwards makes everything hilarious as it should. This one ranks one of the best. It features one of Clouseau's clumsiest, the wonderfully hilarious karate sequence between Cato and Clouseau and a wonderfully exhibited comedy plot, about Clouseau's former Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfuss cracking up and finds a sinister way to find Clouseau and uses a large laser to threaten the world to give away Clouseau. Though not A SHOT IN THE DARK, this is one of the funnier outings in the entertaining, if totally uneven PINK PANTHER series.

Rating: ***1/2 out of 5.
