Franco in good film shocker
2 October 2010 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

I was given this DVD for nothing from a mate who bought it on a whim and couldn't stay awake through the first ten minutes. To be honest with you I'm generally surprised that Jess Franco has produced something so interesting, as compared to anything I've witnessed previously Jack the Ripper is a masterpiece.

It's very VERY loosely based on the actual Jack the Ripper legend. We've got Klaus Kinski (we've ALWAYS got Klaus Kinski) as the ripper, a doctor who likes to carve up women and dump them in a canal that's supposed to pass as the Thames...also his landlady wants into his pants, some prozzies reckon they've twigged who the killer is, and some other crazy crap involving a blind guy with 'smello-vision' is also going on...

I rather enjoyed Franco's Jack the Ripper, even though there were anomalies aplenty, what with modern drum kits etc, and the whole 'the Ripper being caught' part...but this is definitely one of his better efforts...there's even some attempt at gore...get it while it is cheap
