Sadly Underrated Series, 30 May 2009

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

This was one of our favorites during its all too short run. It was witty, compassionate, intelligent, and superior to Night Court by light years. Michael Christopher projected the weary demeanor of someone who had seen every brand of human stupidity but was still fighting the good fight. Upon hearing that a reporter would be sitting in on his court doing research on "the ten worst judges in America," he mused "I wonder who the other nine are." Probably the best episode was the one where a defendant was in for car theft (first offense) and the public defender assured him Sirota would treat him fairly. Unfortunately, Sirota's own car had just been stolen and he threw the book at the guy. Finally the mousy defender musters her courage and upbraids the judge for bias, then concludes that she knows she's going to be cited for contempt, but she had to say it anyway. Sirota tries vainly to get a word in edgewise and finally says "You're right," and reduces the sentence. Is it too late to nominate him for the Supreme Court?
