Glamorized version of a true incident....
26 March 2003 | by (Memphis, TN) – See all my reviews

This made-for-TV movie is based on a real incident (and the book written by Andrew Jensen about his ordeal), the court martial of a U.S. Navy chaplain on charges of adultery. When I was a Navy Judge Advocate in the mid-1980's, I had the privilege of working in a command where one of Chaplain Jensen's real life military lawyers was executive officer. Having both seen the movie and read the book, I discussed the case with the exec. He said that the casting is just a bit off: In the real life case, Chaplain Jensen more closely resembled Don Knotts than James Franciscus, while the woman Jensen was alleged to have committed adultery with was even more beautiful than Lynda Day George (who portrays her in this movie), if such a thing is possible. That being said, this is a decent TV movie; the portrayal here of military law, military lawyers and court martial proceedings is more accurate than, say "JAG", and the cast delivers competent performances. Not a great film, but there are many worse ways to spend 90 minutes in front of a TV. If it is being shown or you can rent it cheap, go for it.
