In each film in the Dexter Riley series, ("The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes", "Now You See Him Now You Don't" and "The Strongest Man In The World") Medfield College is is financial trouble with the antics of Dexter (Kurt Russell) always saving the school. At the end of NYSMNYD, fellow student Richard Schuyler says that next year he will have to come up with a solution. This foreshadows the events in TSMITW as it is Schuyler and his creation of a cereal that sets in motion the plot of Dexter gaining super strength.

Even though he receives top credit, Kurt Russell has the least amount of screen time in this film than the other two films in the series, with most of the story focusing on the other characters, mostly Richard Schuyler, Dean Higgins and A.J. Arno.
