Quotes

Interviewer: Mike, now you're a singer with an increasingly large following. Your ideas are projected through the mass media and, therefore, get to be known by an enormous number of people. What is it, exactly, that you're trying to say?
Mike Preston: Well, I don't think my ideas carry very far as such. I don't believe that. I think you'd be over-estimating both the audience and me if you thought they did. You know sometimes the audience are much faster than I am to get the joke. I mean, neither of us are faster than ...

Southbank religion on screen ?
23 June 2004 | by (Southport N W England) – See all my reviews

I was never sure about the exact thrust of this piece of realism. Roy Harper is right and good ,but things could have been tighter...the priest peters out very well as if to say that all the socially aware notions which were infecting the Church at this time were (and are) of no effect.I love the interview with Bob Harris where Harper hardly responds to a question about religion and then when he is over the Atlantic a group of Jesus people certainly don't freak him out with their chorus.

Was Miss White a kind of Virgin for the modern era-but then it would have been "Maid". Does the title indicate that the religion and the pop music is made up...It is not the usual brand in this part of London, and we must remember that this screen priest is functioning in the shadow of bishops like Stockwood.

Harper crassly resembles Jesus, but then didn't so many hippies ?

I like the film-it's the death throes of ritual Christianity in the face of people who have completely different needs from what churchgoing offers them. I hope ordinands have watched it.
