Shirley Jones in another Post-Partridge Fam. Dramatic Role!
Hoohawnaynay5 January 2004
Shirley Jones is a really good dramatic actress if you only remember her from Partridge Family. This movie and her 1975 TV Movie "Winner Take All" are probably her best work since that series went off the air in 1974. Here she plays a woman who digs a little too deep into a political assassination. She ruffles quite a few feathers and the best scene in this movie is where she is forced to drink poison at gunpoint or be shot immediately. I won't give away the plot twists but Shirley is quite effective in this role, tame action & car chases by today's standards but that's what I like about it, it's more believeable that today's cinema or TV fare. Good supporting cast too, with many familiar TV faces of the 70's.

Warning: Spoilers
From the very beginning, I already thought of another American thriller, shot in 1974 and directed by Alan J Pakula: PARALLAX VIEW. The assassination of a politician during a major sport event, and aired on TV on live broadcast. And it happens that the lead character, a famous journalist, decides to investigate, just after the killing. If you have loved the Pakula's feature, you may like this one. But, of course, you also may prefer the non TV movie...

Good acting and suspense all along the film, convincing characters, the Pakula's film atmosphere is restored. Only the very ending is different from the original story. Which I prefer.
