Motion Picture Sound Editors Announce Golden Reel Nominees

American Sniper,” “Big Hero 6,” “Birdman,” “The Lego Movie” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” have been nominated by the Motion Picture Sound Editors for the 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, to be held Feb. 15 at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.

The Mpse announced nominees in 20 categories Wednesday.

“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. This year’s nominations reflect that change, spanning an amazing diversity of mediums and genres, all executed at the highest level of creativity. We are truly inspired and impressed by the work of our colleagues.”

Darren Aronofsky will receive the filmmaker award, and Skip Lievsay will receive the career achievement award.

‘Birdman,’ ‘Apes’ Top 2015 Golden Reel Nominations

Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.

“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. This year’s nominations reflect that change, spanning an amazing diversity of mediums and genres, all executed at the highest level of creativity. The Schiff Company Gets A New Name: Call It Mgmt. Entertainment

Three-quarters of a decade after its launch, the management firm run by partners David Schiff, Courtney Kivowitz and Christian Donatelli has adopted a new moniker. The Schiff Company henceforth will be known as Mgmt. Entertainment. “The name change is meant as a symbolic acknowledgement of the incredible growth of the company since it’s inception 7 plus years ago, founder and partner David Schiff said in a statement. “The change further reflects the significant contribution from partners Kivowitz and Donatelli.”

Mgmt’s roster continues to include such boldface names as Michael B. Jordan, Katherine McPhee, Ethan Hawke, Keira Knightley, Jeff Bridges, Melissa McCarthy, Kevin Bacon, Dane Dehaan, Sienna Miler  Jane Lynch, Helena Bonham Carter, Anna Gunn, Aubrey Plaza, Emmy Rossum, Ben Falcone, Sissy Spacek, Jennifer Connelly, Ellen Burstyn, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Colin Hanks.
