Since its premiere on 28 August 1975, the movie was shown at a cinema somewhere in the world every day of the week, for 28 years. Mainly in theaters in Norway, Moscow or Tokyo, the non-stop run ended in 2003.
The original puppet of Ludvig, the most popular character in the movie, was later auctioned away for cancer-related charity. The bidding ended on 110,000 Norwegian Kroners.
This movie has been translated into at least 14 languages. Emmanuel Desperados's voice has not been translated at all (he's an orang-utan), so 'Harald Heide-Steen Jr' is credited with the voice in all languages.
The registration number HB4596, which announced over the speakers before the race, refers to home brewed alcohol: HB means home brewed, 45 stands for 45 abv, available in Norwegian stores and 96 means 96 abv, what all home brewers aim for.
A fully working version of the car is often present at charity events in Norway. It has two Chevy engines and has a top speed in excess of 250kph. It is also road legal in Norway.
