Storyline

A post-apocalyptic tale based on a novella by Harlan Ellison. A boy communicates telepathically with his dog as they scavenge for food and sex, and they stumble into an underground society where the old society is preserved. The daughter of one of the leaders of the community seduces and lures him below, where the citizens have become unable to reproduce because of being underground so long. They use him for impregnation purposes, and then plan to be rid of him. Written by Ed Sutton <esutton@mindspring.com>

Trivia

The screenplay was started by Harlan Ellison, who wrote the novella on which it is based. Ellison encountered writer's block, and so producer Alvy Moore and L.Q. Jones took over and wrote the script. Ellison praised the film after its premiere, to the relief of Moore, but there are rumors that Ellison later condemned the film. See more »

One of the Best Sci-Fi Films Ever
1 March 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I had heard wonderful things about this film and about how it was the biggest influence on Mad Max, a favorite of mine, so I just had to check it out. I definitely loved this movie and it's a new Sci-Fi favorite of mine. It moves very well and kept me very entertained the entire time. I'm glad to have it in my collection.

The story and setting were very brilliant, a boy and his dog that can speak to each other do whatever they can to survive after the world has been turned to a wasteland after world war IV. The acting from Don Johnson, Susanne Benton, and Jason Robards was incredible. This movie was well ahead of its time and you can definitely see how it influenced Mad Max. If you're a fan of post apocalyptic films, you can't go without seeing this any longer.
