A post-apocalyptic tale based on a novella by Harlan Ellison. A boy communicates telepathically with his dog as they scavenge for food and sex, and they stumble into an underground society where the old society is preserved. The daughter of one of the leaders of the community seduces and lures him below, where the citizens have become unable to reproduce because of being underground so long. They use him for impregnation purposes, and then plan to be rid of him. Written by

At a science fiction convention, there was a pre-release screening of this film. At the end, when Harlan Ellison came on stage and invited comments, the most common was that the portion of the movie taking place in 'The Underground' was really slow-moving (a polite way of saying 'boring'). Ellison was very defensive about this complaint and responded to the effect that 'The Underground' was a boring, stultifying place and the movie was intended to convey that. The audience did not find this to be a satisfying defense. See more
