Great movie from the 70s
7 September 2008 | by (US) – See all my reviews

Great old movie about not-so-old at all problem of facing your demons. Acting by Donatas Banionis and Alla Demidova is superb, and it's wonderful to see the great old-time Actors -like Babochkin and "Anidag" Angelina Stepanova. Songs by Vysotskiy were probably made by order and do not sound very characteristic for the Great Bard, too easy and textbookish content. Above comment about unconvincing Western ambiance is irrelevant - the movie is not about the atmosphere (although the Soviets did a great job of creating it on a quite good level out of nothing, much better than Hollywood did of hideous so-called "red" movies of the 70s) but has a much deeper-running philosophy, with allusions to Dostoevsky. You can watch the movie for free at http intv dot ru - in Russian, too bad there is no English translation. Enjoy!
